When the state finally decides to build a bridge/loop in the Baton Rouge area they will obviously need to gain access to land that is privately owned. They will likely buy that land right?

What about in this wall situation?

I was just reading this about a family who owns land beyond the Rio Grande, so can the federal government just build shite on land that is privately owned?

quote:

HIDALGO, Texas (AP) — As President Donald Trump traveled to the border in Texas to make the case for his $5.7 billion wall , landowner Eloisa Cavazos says she knows firsthand how the project will play out if the White House gets its way. The federal government has started surveying land along the border in Texas and announced plans to start construction next month. Rather than surrender their land, some property owners are digging in, vowing to reject buyout offers and preparing to fight the administration in court.

quote:

“You could give me a trillion dollars and I wouldn’t take it,” said Cavazos, whose land sits along the Rio Grande, the river separating the U.S. and Mexico in Texas. “It’s not about money.” Trump arrived Thursday in McAllen, a city of 143,000 that is on the busiest part of the border for illegal crossings. He toured a section of the border and said “a lot of the crime in our country is caused by what’s coming through here.”

Of course they can.

This is the purpose of imminent domain.

The power of Imminent Domain applies no matter the property so long as the government has a legitimate reason for it (national defense, transportation, even economic development thanks to the insane KELO case). Once the government decides to go full-blown imminent domain, they only have to offer market rate to get the property and the owner has no choice.

Do you think the Native American tribes just gladly handed over their entire (what we now call the USA) colonizations.

What would be funny is if someone wants to fight it and they build the wall everywhere but that one owner’s land. Guess where all the illegals try to cross then.

Refuse? There is no refuse. There is only want and not want. What the landowner wants is not taken into consideration. The land will be taken and the landowner will be paid.

They used eminent domain to build Jerry's World so they can use it for most anything as long as it's for "the public good".

What's terrible, besides him making a post when he could just ask the question in Google, is that he had no idea what the term was or how to spell it and just trusted some other posters spelling to call you a frickhead
