La Governor: I am voting for whomever offers a plan to fix/build roads and bridges.

Two trips to North La in the last week. Baton Rouge is nothing short of a late term abortion.
It's getting to the point where I care about nothing else. Why can't we have a nice, modern system of transportation infrastructure? I want to personally ask every candidate for governor what he intends to do about it. I will vote for the guy with the best plan (and it must be a plan that is actually doable).
We all know why. It's because people don't want to pay for it.

It’s not because people don’t want to pay for it
It’s because people know that they won’t see any improvements because the government will squander the money
If we had an efficient government like Texas, people would be more willing to consider tax hikes

I agree.
JBE keeps vetoing maple ave in Eunice, and it's a state road that's in beyond shitty shape. It's the second main road in this town and it looks like a third world country road.
The Mayor of Eunice keeps getting it on the ballot and JBE has veto'd is 4 years in a row. It's an abomination .

I almost think the state has passed the point of no return as a viable economic entity. If we started all needed infrastructure construction TODAY, it would still take about 25 years to get us to where we should have been around 1985.

In all fairness, trusting that higher taxes under JBE would be spent on what it should be is like trusting that the guy in the white van with "free candy" signs is actually giving out candy.

There’s nothing remotely attractive about this state if you’re an out of state business unless we are offering massive subsidies or tax credits

Our state is also very reluctant to build toll roads for whatever reason
As previously stated, I would happily pay a $10 toll to bypass the peoples republic of Baton Rouge

Then stop voting for (in you case) the same boudin eating fools who show up ever wo years and ask you to vote for them solely on the fact they are "conservative" and they have a nice looking family on the front of their brochures.

That's the convenient excuse. Just admit it, you like to bitch about the transportation infrastructure, but if you had to pay an extra cent for it, then it's highway robbery. Plus the way everything is set up in BR, the governor gets to determine how the highway funds are distributed.

BS. LA doesn’t have a tax revenue problem. Our politicians have a spending problem. There is plenty of room in the budget without idiots like you supporting more taxes.

I don’t vote for those types, not sure where you are getting that from

To be fair Jindal was not much better. Although I speak regularly with people who deal with JBE and the administration and they don't have the same bitch that many on this board have with him. He's pretty straight forward from what I've heard.

And like everywhere else in the country, people can, and have been paying for it, but legislatures across the country use the largesse for pet projects, graft, and outright fraud. Also, it doesn't matter one bit if the people vote in a temporary tax increase, for a specific purpose, with a hard sunset on the tax. By the time the sunset comes, the people have forgotten it, so the politicians scuttle the sunset, and often propose additional taxes for the next manufactured crisis.

Toll roads and paid express lanes is a large part of what has worked in Texas. I'm a fan of them honestly, even if there is still squandering and inefficiency along the way.

Infrastructure is abysmal in this state. It’s at 1975 levels. So I understand your pragmatism over ideology.

NTTA is 3rd party though. Thats why they get shite done. No profits come from undone work or work that takes 15 years.

You threw that assertion down now defend it specifically or else you are like all the other s who speak in platitudes but can't show shite.
Let me guess..... you are going to start with the Medicaid expansion and nothing else....that's too easy
I'm not for higher taxes, but I don't think we allocate the taxes we get correctly mainly because of statutes passed and stupid Constitutional Amendment that locks in funding .
