We have plenty enough money!!!!! I pay a goddamned fortune in taxes. The problem is that governement needs to be run like business!!!! We have a spending problem not a revenue problem because I pay a goddamned fortune in taxes!!!!!!! I won't vote for any new taxes, I'm taxed enough.

Damn these roads, it's a frickin travesty. This traffic is a mess, they ought to do something about this. But no new taxes....maybe I'll move closer to work.

Am I getting this right?

Economic growth slowed to a crawl prior to JBE

Not that it’s ever been good in my lifetime, anyway

SOrry but all money goes to government employees and their benefits and thier cronies. JBE raised taxes 2 billion dollars with full support of the “Republicans” and ZERO infrastructure. It’s all being stolen !!

I'm glad a few of us actually admit this and not become knee jerks on the whole thing just because he's a Democrat, etc. Jindal was mor interested in his national profile and let things go to shite and the state legislature is still insistent in pegging he state budget to excise taxes based on the price of a barrel of oil.

I have friends in third party logistics companies(big ones) who have said that the intersection of I-12 / I-55 should be a huge logistics hub but because of the surrounding infasucture warehousing companies, etc shy away.....they cite BR traffic

To clarify a bit, the economy didn't "slow down" it plummeted due to a collapse in energy prices. Now this really didn't affect state mineral revenues, they were mostly forecasting a decline and not that much goes to the general fund anyway.

However the slump in energy affected the rest of the economy as workers were laid off. So actually it was a hit to income and sales tax that really affected the budget.

Our tax structure isn't too dependent on mineral revenues...our economy is too dependent on energy prices.

True to some extent. He straightforward told ExxonMobil he didn’t care if they took their $7 Billion greenfield plant to Texas or not.

Jindal was a huge disappointment, JBE is as awful as I knew he would be.

Absolutely. You would think that after 2-3 busts in the last 30-35 years we would learn about the fickle nature of the OG Industry.

Why can't we have a nice, modern system of transportation infrastructure?

Part of the reason is because any "modern system of transportation" includes a public transit component. Wypipo in Louisiana think public transit is for Other People, not them. Therefore they don't want to pay for it. In the rest of the country, outside of the South, wypipo take public transit all the time. It's stigmatized here by backwards shortsighted people that take to anything considered 'modern' begrudgingly.

Basically, if you want something modern, you'll have to leave Louisiana.

It's not only that, but inept governments often take FOREVER to complete road and infrastructure improvements.

No one wants to pay right now for something that MIGHT be complete in 10 years (if they're lucky).

Road improvements also mean traffic on those roads while the work is being done infamously slow. Its just hard to vote FOR.

The main thing that makes Texas work is that they keep the bulk of the money local/close to its intended usage.

Not send it all to the state level to act as the slush fund for pet projects of the legislature/governor and maybe back to the communities, if they are willing to give more money to make a little more room in the budget.

Hoping for any statewide elected official or the legislature in LA to actually try and fix the transportation or infrastructure nightmare is pointless. Its one of on the long list of reasons LA is one of if not the most unique political dynamics left in the country. Doesn't matter whether its a D or R no reason for them to try and help one of the largest issues because they get nothing from solving that problem.

Louisiana has natural advantages that easily surpass the rest of the south and a majority of the country. Beginning with our constitution, the state is so backwards that it stops any potential progress we have. One thing this board can agree on from what I have seen, per capita LA has more RINOs and DINOs than anywhere else, without fail we will find a way to squander opportunity but at the same time overcome adversity and continue on how its always been.

Bull crap. Louisiana taxpayers already overpay for the public mass transit systems we do have that only serve an extreme fringe of users. We simply don't have the population centers to make it workable, unlike other major metro areas.

It works in areas of New Orleans, Houston, Atlanta, and elsewhere, so your "southern" theory is nonsense.
