Hate to say it, but the only way Bama doesn’t make the playoff is if:

LSU beats Bama
aTm beats LSU
UGA/UK winner beats Bama in SECCG

That would be quite the debate if that scenario played out with Michigan winning out vs a one loss Bama. The Saban
2 weeks of lobbies after the Auburn game would be great.

Depends.

If we win Saturday but lose to aTm and Bama then wins the SECw and the SECCG then yes they deserve it.

But.....

If we win the SECw, regardless of what happens in Atlanta, Bama should not be in.

This.

Plus, an undefeated or one loss ND is in over a 1 loss non-SEC champ Bama (assuming ND's loss isn't in blow out fashion). If there is any team the nation that gets more help than Bama, it's ND.

it depends on "how" they lose, and the committee pays attention to that, as they rightly should.

If Bama loses a close game to us, a top 4 team on the road at night, then that's not as bad as a UGA-type blowout.

So if Bama goes 11-1 and their only loss is a close one to us, and we run the table, Bama's probably getting into the playoff, especially considering the meltdown of the PAC-12 (WSU is the only shot) and potentially a 2-loss Big 10 champ if Michigan loses to OSU.

You do realize it means more money for each SEC team if we get 2 teams in the playoff?

Kind of but I disagree, if they have one loss at end of year and the number 4 team has one loss and no conference championship then I think they should have a chance at that slot, at least until they do away with conference championship and or add teams 5 and 6

Neither did they in 2011 or last year.

But it doesn’t matter. Money talks. I have respect for their program and Saban, but my hatred lies in stuff like this and their idiotic fanbase.

I can almost guarantee you that if they ever expand the CFP to 8 teams, Alabama will get in every year, even with 2 losses.

what does that mean? You're saying Bama paid the pollsters and BCS computers in 2011?

Bama paid the playoff selection committee members last year?

Take off the tinfoil hat - there's no corruption or conspiracy. Bama is the most dominant team of the last decade. They'll get the benefit of the doubt. And last year they proved they were worthy of the committee's invitation by dominating no. 1 seed Clemson and then beating UGA.

They won't deserve to be in the playoffs immediately following the loss.

But then they get the benefit to just sit there and rest up until they fall into the four spot.

It's really all "Back-Door-Bama" knows at this point.

For what it's worth, when Alabama loses to LSU this weekend the rankings will come out and we will see Clemson#1 Bama#2 LSU#3. The only way we can jump them is to beat them by more than one score. Bama with 1 loss is an automatic playoff participant. Change is coming but not soon enough. We all must except where we at and plan on having to beat Georgia twice and Bama twice to get that respect. Their fans will still claim another championship so it really doesn't matter what the polls say..

** accept
** are

And beating Georgia twice wouldn't be based on any committee's vote - it's just scheduling and East vs. West in the SECCG. So it's not relevant. But let's hope FL or KY win the East - we don't want to have to beat a good team twice.

To be fair, they will be compared to all the other One Loss teams and will have lost to #4 (then) on the road.

The problem is you'd be giving them credit for a quality loss and they wouldn't have any quality wins

Quality wins should be much more important than a "quality loss"

If Bama loses this weekend, they are still in. One of the teams ranked ahead of them WILL get screwed in a game to make room for Bama. It has happened all the previous times Bama lost control of their own destiny.

Apples and oranges. LSU won the SEC championship in 2007 and there were absolutely no more deserving teams ahead of us. Alabama didn't even win their own division, let alone the SEC title in 2017.

understood, although I do think Bama was clearly one of the top 4 teams last year, but let's move on.

Here's a hypothetical:

What is LSU had beaten Florida, so we're undefeated. We lose to Bama this weekend in a close game. We then win the rest of our games to finish 11-1.

Would you argue that we should have a real shot of getting a playoff bid, because our sole loss was to a great team?

Or would you be intellectually consistent and say we shouldn't be considered for the playoffs because we "didn't even win our own division." Be honest please.

But if they favor Bama with "the eye test" (again) over a more deserving power like Michigan, OSU or OU? It would at least expedite a bigger playoff bracket (6 or 8 teams). Come to think of it, that's exactly what the money people want.

Selecting the playoff teams is part objective, part subjective. The truth is an 11-1 Bama team is subjectively a top 4 team. I can accept that.

What I can't accept is conference championship games being used to PENALIZE the participants to the BENEFIT of non participants. That's EXACTLY what happened last season

Auburn beat Alabama in the season finale to win the SECW. Going into the SECG Auburn was ranked ahead of Bama. Had the season ended there Auburn would have been in the playoffs and Alabama wouldn't. But, Auburn's reward for beating Alabama was playing a 13th game that Alabama didn't have to play (same for UGA for that matter). That scenario allowed Bama to BENEFIT from NOT winning the SECW. They got to sit at home and just wait for either UGA or Auburn to be knocked out of the playoffs. I hate the idea that a conf. championship game can be used to penalize one of the participants.

For instance, does anyone really think 11-2 UGA gets in the playoff last year if they lost the SECG? Of course not, because the argument would have been that Bama only had one loss while UGA had two. Well...the ONLY reason UGA had two losses is because they were forced (because of their success) to play an extra game Bama didn't have to play.

Think back to 2011. Does ANYONE think that if LSU lost the SECCG they would have still made the national championship game? Of course not. Yet, Bama, because they lost to LSU, got to sit home secure of their spot in the championship game while LSU had to put their season on the line.
