My favorite aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer a little over 3 yrs ago. After a year of chemo and radiation therapy she finally had surgery to try and remove the cancer from her body. The surgery was successful and after 1 more round of chemo she went into remission. Sadly, about a year after that she found out that the cancer was back but it was not as aggressive and could be controlled and contained as long as she stays on chemo basically for the rest of her life. She was perscribed an FDA approved oral oncology drug. Yesterday we found out that her insurance would no longer pay for the drug that she needs to sustain her life. This drug costs $15,000 a month. My aunt is a high school teacher and an employee of the state of Arkansas. Her insurance company, provided by the state, and the state have both pretty much told her tough shite.
First, how TF is it moral or ethical to charge that much for any drug? I get that it’s not cheap but my God that is ridiculous! Secondly, screw that fricking insurance company for refusing to pay for a drug when one of its customers makes all of her payments for that reason. And lastly, frick CANCER!!!

Which drug is it? Sorry to hear about all this shite.

It’s my biggest gripe about health insurance. They make it damn hard to know exactly what you’re going to pay in the event that you get sick or injured.

Lost my dad( and my hero) in May to Cancer. I’m not big into conspiracies but I’m not one hundred percent sure that their isn’t a cure. These pharmaceutical companies stand to lose a lot of money if a cure is out there... I’m with you frick all three

I agree about all of them sucking.
But if they paid 15k a month for drugs for everyone with cancer then I can’t see how it would be sustainable.
The problem is the fact that it’s 15k.

Health insurance is different than health care!

But WHY is it 15k?
Someone else is paying for it. There is no market, so costs go out of control. Throwing the government in the mix makes it even worse.

I hear ya, but think about it. The stand to make a LOT MORE if they have a cure.

Go over to India and get it over there. Drugs over there are a fraction of the cost. No idea what it would be, but my grandfathers alzheimer medicine was 1/2 of the price over there than even by what was covered by insurance here.

Also, if they couldn't make a profit on a little used drug, they wouldn't even produce it.

Really sad stat I saw last week, 40% of people who get cancer end up going through all their life savings paying for treatment with co-pays, deductibles, no insurance ,etc.
I forget the number, but the % of bankruptcies due to medical expenses is really high. And yes, fvck cancer

Jgoodw318 you need to get your congressman involved along with contacting the news station in your area. Blast them all over social media, ive seen these frickers cave when the pressure is applied...

Contact the drug company. Most will provide the drug for little to no cost if insurance refuses to pay.

I implore everyone to watch the documentary Escape Fire. It’s eye opening. You will never look at healthcare in this country the same way again.
