Future MIL gave me her old ring. She upgraded for her 25 year anniversary, and my (now) wife had her eye on the original for years.

I went to a guy who deals directly with a diamond whole seller. His prices and quality were comparable to Blue Nile (also GIA certified), so I just went with him because I could deal in person and he gave a cash discount.

I think I spent around 2.5 months salary at the time.

First wife, Adler’s 9k. 2nd wife, independent jeweler in Hammond, 1800. 2nd wife was much more appreciative of her cheapo ring vs. first wife’s and her expensive one.

Haven't bought from them, but have been looking at Sanghavi Solitaire. Pricing is excellent and if they don't have what you want in stock, you can give them the GIA number or specs you are looking for and they will find and quote it.

Zales. Staff was helpful and the GF was reasonable on price when picking her ring which was super helpful.

I used a guy in L.A. who works through a large salon. I told him the cut and approximate amount I had to spend, and he sent over 5-6 diamonds. I didn't pay attention to the grades given. I just did the eye test and had the girls working there look at them. I think I saved $3k maybe more by doing this and I didn't have to pay tax.

I've heard there's a 800% markup on jewelry

A lot of diamonds these days are so expensive because women think the "conflict free" diamonds are so much better. It's all psychological though. You'd have to be very experienced to even tell a difference. Go with the conflict diamonds and save a good bit.

Robbins Brothers. $15k.

The band was custom designed by me, her sister, and a jeweler. She loves it and gets compliments on it weekly by random women.
