Use to play golf with a guy who sold his business to T Boone Pickens for 1bil. He wore shirt s with holes in them, one son shot a killed the other son and is in jail, and his grand daughter who inherited everything is confined to a wheelchair because of some shitty disease. What a life!

But not shite you can’t tell down here’s with all the oilfield money and guy s with no hs diploma making millions selling their businesses. I had a customer pull up in old beat up Kia suv, pre 2000 version, so you get the picture. He’s wearing coveralls and those horrible slip on knit shoes. His crappy flip phone rings and I hear talking about going to the boat show. Thinking local maybe gulf coast. Proceeds to tell, the person on the other end to fuel the jet and get a flight plan submitted to Miami. He was too old to be screwing with me.

Retired neighbor when I was growing up had over $10 million in holdings in his brokerage account in the 1980s. Dude lived like someone with $100 in the bank.

That's probably accurate for many more people than the cliche OT responses in here of everyone knowing billionaires.

My neighbors from when I first moved to Brooklyn. They are both Professors at Columbia but I think the wife made the fortune when she sold her website in the early 2000s

If it’s $250,000 of INTEREST on their assets, then yes. They are are definitely rich.

The president of my company (public) makes 5M+/year. He's very active in the company, making it a point to be involved in all levels. Has even hosted employee events at his home.

CEO and founder at my company is easily basking in tens of millions. Still working at late sixties and a simple guy by all accounts.

His father is in his 90’s and still comes in as well. He was even more of a self made millionaire.

Lots of respect for both of them for making something out of nothing and giving so many local people great jobs. They could just sell out and retire but they enjoy the business too much.

I know a guy who just sold his third company for over a billion dollars. Lot's of assets in that sale, but this third company hired him on a CEO/ major partner because of his reputation in the industry. Dude is filthy rich, and has a moderate house considering, and only drives a nice Lexus when he can afford whatever the hell he wants.

My moms former business partner. First made her money in specialty advertising. At one point she had 7 or 8 offices across the southeast. Sold her majority share to my mom and now she met some native American guy and uses him to win government contracts that don't seem to require her to actually do anything. Pretty sure it's illegal and I wouldn't be surprised to see her in prison at some point.

Alice Walton. About $40 billion, last I knew.

Its been probably 10 years since I spoke to her, though. I don't know if that qualifies as 'actively knowing'.
