I think these numbers are low, especially in the south with self-made, privetly held oil and gas companies. Benson is the only person in LA listed by Forbes. I know of one family that sold off their company for over a billion. I’m sure there are others.

Want say who, but in his house there is, tucked away in the bar area, a crystal cylinder made by deBeers filled with liquid that contains a few dozen uncut diamonds.

Benson isnt even the richest person in the state. With the oil downturn he has probably jumped some spots but he is still running 2nd or 3rd.

Founder & still primary share holder of one of the largest commercial real estate developers on the Southeast coast. Doesn't really live lavishly outside of the private jet he calls on a whim to take him golfing around the country
