DO NOT USE ANY WILL YOU FIND ONLINE. they will not be valid in La.

you can write it by all by hand(your hand only), sign, date and say it is your last will and it is valid.

i leave everything to bessie at my death. if she kicks the bucket afore me, it all goes to my kids, spudnik and lester.

LOL @ Online Wills.

Go ahead. Spend $50 bucks doing one. Your heirs will be spending $300 an hour on their own lawyers trying to clean up the mess you made.

This. It's possible that an online will/testament will be valid, but why take that chance if you have any real assets to leave to your family, friends, etc.

You can draft your own will (needs to be written, dated, signed, no witnesses required). This is an Olographic testament. With these though, there's a risk of confusion of your intent to dispose assets and you run the risk of those assets being disposed under La's intestate (no will) laws. It may all end up going to the people you want it to anyway, but you want to make that call - not the state's laws in a default situation.

If you're going to spend the $, which I believe is worth it, hire an attorney that knows what they're doing to draft a Notarial testament (requires 2 competent witnesses and a notary). They're harder to challenge, the disposition of assets will be better protected, and if for any reason a mistake is made on the will, you have a claim against the attorney (really his professional malpractice insurance).

There are some things that are sufficient to DIY. Wills, donations, POAs, etc. are not them, IMHO.

I got a quote and it was $1000, but when I bitched about it, she dropped it to $800. Seems pretty expensive for what you get if you ask me. I even work in the legal industry and find it suspect. Most of those documents are pretty simple.

I talked to a friend that has done wills, he said that the online ones are decent. Its unlikely that both my wife and I die anytime soon, so I think it will work. And if it doesn't work, I am leaving more than enough to cover the cost of figuring it out.

We had one done today along with POA for MIL. Cost, ZERO. Good friend and my neighbor did it for us as all other crap that needs paperwork. Of course we pay to file all paperwork into the court records. She is a super sweet person and also a arse DA in the parish area.

If the will is entirely written, dated and signed in the hand of the testator, it’s good.

I used to bill $400/hr for estate planning when I was in private practice. However, you can probably find someone who Bills much less if your estate isn’t complex.

Write your own will in your own handwriting and sign and date it. You're welcome.

Save your money and do one of the many online wills. With just a little investigating you'll find that many will stand up in the wacked out Louisiana laws designed to steal you children's or loved ones inheritance, but make sure you hand sign and date it and in the opening sentences make sure it states you sign this will being of sound mind and this will renders any previous wills nul and void. Really a lot of sites have it set up where you just fill in the blanks and it fills in all the state required jargon.

I practice in this area. Please do your will online. We make wayyyy more money when someone does their own will.

Also, price shouldn't be an issue. You need to find someone that is competent and knows what they're doing. Bragging about how you spent $500 for a will and the other basic documents more than likely means you received documents that are not very well done.

Go to DaveRamsey.com

If you don't wanna do that, $50 to $100 should get you a will with most lawyers

Good luck
