Been shooting a pump all my life. Decided to make a switch this year. Have hunted with the 400 and love the way it shoots and feels. Have held the M2 but never shot it. I know one is gas and the other inertia but was wanting some feedback from some of you guys.

Need more info. If you're talking about the A400 Xtreme (I'm assuming you are), it's not apples to apples.

M2 is 3", A400 Xtreme is 3 1/2"

If you don't shoot 3 1/2" shells, M2 all day for me.

my next gun will be the m2 but i have never shot one. My SBE I has been super reliable so will stick with the inertia gun. Don't you can go wrong with either,+ for 400 since have hunted with one.

From my research, if a Benelli semi is in your budget - get it and don't look back. Beretta makes some fine shotguns, particularly the O/Us, but IMHO, Benelli is the gold standard for semis, period.

buddy of mine has an M2 and he hunts the shitte out of it Sept to Feb. Chose it over the SBE. He's a real gadget/gear nut and can afford whatever he wants and he loves his M2. I shot with it one morning in the blind, very slim and easy to swing, very nicely balanced.

Personally I shoot a SBE-II and love it. I like the inertia better than the gas but mainly when I shouldered an A400 it didn't sit as well for me as the Benelli.

If you've already hunted with the A400 and like how it shoots I'd go with that.

I have owned my M2 for 10+ years now and I hands down think it is one of the most reliable guns on the market. I put about around 3.5K rounds through it a year and have never looked back. I have shot most brand name guns (including the new a400 yesterday) and even own a berreta 28ga but I will still always chose my Benelli.

It has been through hell and back including a battery acid wash and the only parts ive had to replace were a few springs that lose tension.

If you plan to do a lot of shooting the A400 is definitely the softer recoiling gun. I've run hundreds of shells through my A400 in a day shooting clays and the gas piston had hardly any fouling on it. Utterly reliable, swings like the barrel is 4" shorter than it is, and is the only semi-auto I've tried that feels close to as good as my Ruger O/U.

I have an SBE2 and a Winchester SX3. I’ve stated on here numerous times, I enjoy the SX3 more and shoot it better. It is balanced better. It has less recoil as well, so second, or follow-up shots are easier in my experience.

The SX3 is not as sexy looking, and Winchester is not as name-worthy as Benelli, but IMO it’s a better waterfowl gun.

It’ll be cheaper (SX3, or now SX4) than either gun as well.

This is what my gun looks like:

The reduced recoil in the new Beretta is amazing. I own two and have had no issues. You can't go wrong with the Benelli either.

You can’t go wrong either way. If you shot the A400 and like it go some place where you can shoot the M2. Make your decision by feel and the one you shoot more proficiently.

I have the Beretta and love how light it is and the kickoff system.

Get the one that fits. Length of pull and comb drop are your two most important factors. To measure your LOP, bend your arm 90 degrees and measure the distance from the crease in your elbow and the first crease on your trigger finger (1st crease from the tip of your finger). Most average build people are around 14.5". You don't need to fool with measuring comb drop in this instance, but an easy way to test is to close your eyes, mount the gun, then open them. If your beads line up like a snowman, that's good. If they are stacked or there's even more distance, you need to adjust the comb up or down.

Satisfying those two factors will eliminate tons of frustration from missing. A shotgun that fits you will not hurt you or bruise you... ever.

These are both fantastic shotguns. I’m a lefty. I have an A-400 XPLOR that’s gorgeous and shoots incredibly well. That said, I wouldn’t take a Ferrari off-road. The M2 is a workhorse. Both cycle every time but that M2 does it filthy. Pick whichever you shoot best. You can’t make a wrong choice here.

What I use:
400 for ducks/geese in 12 ga 3.5”
M2 20ga for ducks/doves
Benelli 28ga for tight ducks and doves

Love both the smaller benellis but the 400 with kickoff just cycles 3 1/2” loads amazingly. Inertia gun takes getting used to in the 12 ga…gotta hold that sucker a lot tighter to the shoulder than the 400 to get rounds to cycle. My sbe 3 is a backup gun to my big beretta.
