Your liability coverage on your Homeowners policy should get a little workout.

Don't give an 11y/o a hatchet to kill a cotton mouth.. Jesus..

Way too young, you should've gone out there to handle the situation yourself...

Dumb move on your part...

If? He wasn’t aware of the possibility of snakes; he knew there was a snake and made the kids go deal with it

I hope they sue you and then CPS takes your kids. You are clearly not a suitable guardian.

If my son came up to me and told me there’s a cotton mouth on the property the last thing I’d do is hand him something to kill it with. I’d tell him to stay the frick away from it.

Now the other kids family is absolutely pissed and threatening to sue, Now I believe me and my son did nothing wrong and if the kid felt uncomfortable he should have removed himself from the situation. How screwed am I?

Your homeowners insurance will make them a settlement for medical bills and such.

I think they would be complete assholes to threaten to sue for anything over that plus lost wages or anything.

You would not want me on the jury. That was totally negligent, not to mention stupid.

I'm a grown man. I'm 40. I ain't going to battle with a cotton mouth using a hatchet.

You sent 11 year olds to kill a snake unsupervised? With a fricking hatchet? What’s wrong with you?!?!

Proper approach to take.

You are probably right.

Just lay low, ignore the other kids parents' calls and what not, I'm sure the whole thing will blow over in a jiffy.

Next time, though, don't give your kid a hatchet... that gives him too much of an advantage. Tell him to use a butter knife or something.

Won't help you in this case but get your kid a single shot 410 for that shite. I wouldn't send my 11 year old with a hatchet to kill a venomous snake.

I grew up in the country around snakes and I was packing heat at 8-9 years old when we went fishing.

Seems negligent to me. Given your kid is a minor (I assume) you're liable for his actions. If start offering to pay all hospital bills etc. maybe you can avoid a suit. Doubtful.

Wow thats young. Man, you really need to get off the OT, don't talk to anyone about this except for an attorney/insurance company, and honestly it needs to be a great attorney. He not only got bit on your property (which would give you exposure) but you sent him back to kill the snake with a tool that made killing the snake even more dangerous. You have a lot of exposure on this one.

Dude, a cottonmouth will bite a fricking hole through the hatchet. Then, once it’s bitten you or whoever you’re with, it will follow you to the ambulance exfil site, bite a hole through the door of the ambulance and pop all the tires, it will follow you to the hospital and bite and kill the medical personnel.

Moral of the story is you should’ve given your kid a shotgun.
