I was talking with my cousin’s fiancé who is in the navy and he says that quality traininging in general is turning to shite. He says everything is computer courses and the computer courses are a waste of time because they don’t mimic real life.

Training money has been diverted to more important things like sexual reassignment surgery and lactation stations.

There are a few things going one.
One, surface ships are kind of the bastard children of the Navy. No one wants to do that compared to being a flyer.
Two, they switched up the systems they use to navigate the ships a few years ago and not everyone bothered to learn how to them correctly.
Three, they accelerated the rotation of personnel so much that the people who are supposed to be training the new guys don’t know what the frick they are doing, so you have the blind leading the stupid.
I number of the Navy guys I know keep facepalming whenever new details of this shite comes out.
Some of them may find it darkly funny on a level considering the officer over their ROTC program in high school was a guy who managed to be named in command of about 2-3 ships which sunk or ran aground.
He wasn’t in command or responsible, as being either gets you immediately removed, but he was the highest ranking officer not involved each time and got named as commander until the ship could be repaired or scuttled, depending on the incident.
Given how bad a driver he was with busses, including burning out the breaks on a brand new bus and backing over a sedan someone was driving, some of us were shocked he actually wasn’t sailing the ship when it hit something.

It’s stupid but true.
No one gets in a military force based around sailing ships to sail ships.
