Would you leave your 3 year old child with an 11 year old babysitter?

We need a baby sitter for about two weeks during the summer and my wife wants to ask the 11 year old girl down the street to spend those days at our house watching him.
I believe her family is a good family, good people, seem to be alright. So no issues there. My concern is that she's only 11. I just don't feel she is mature enough to know the potential dangers and risk of injury of certain actions so I fear she may allow him to do things that we wouldn't do -- such as climb on the table, countertop, countertop near the stove, etc..
My wife, on the other hand, thinks 11 years old is an okay age to babysit. Her argument is that she was babysitting at 11 so it must be okay.
What would y'all do? Let the 11 year old babysit or get someone else like a high schooler or something?

No, definitely not at 11.

11 year old sibling, sure. Someone else’s 11 year old?

absolutely not. they're not mature enough to handle situations that may arise.
i'd say jr in high school at least.

Wow I never even thought of that. That's a great point, though.

What's "the law" on this?
I wouldn't do this in a million years, but I'm just wondering about what you're citing.

11yo with a 3yo? Hell naw!

hell fricking no. Way too young.

Would definitely depend on the 11 yo maturity level. How long will she be alone with the baby?
I wouldn't say an 11 yo couldn't handle it on a limited basis but in general it's probably not a good idea.

12 years old ( anything younger can be considered child abandonment) but I personally think it would be based on the maturity of the one doing the babysitting. Ive seen some 18 year olds that were not as mature as a 12 year old

If you have to ask, you should know the answer.
I'm a little concerned about your parenting skills, letting your kid play in traffic and now letting another child watch your child??

If I was going to be at a party down the block and she was going to sit in the house while the baby slept for a couple of hours maybe. Anything other than that, hell no. And when I say “a party down the block” I mean like next door where the kid could run over and grab me in 30 seconds if the baby so much as woke up.

Considering your thread this morning, is the OT raising your kid?
11 is far too young to babysit with competence.
