Look at it this way. Your neighbors and friends appreciate you.

Wife wants an in ground pool. Ain't gonna happen. I'll deal woth the trashiness of a decent above ground with a nice deck around it so I can tear all the shite down and not have a big arse hole in my yard once the newness wears off in a couple years. frick a pool!

I pay $375 a year for our family to belong to a swim club. They clean and maintain everything. We can bring our own booze and food and they even have BBQ grills. Much better

If you’re out there then it’s unavoidable.

We love our pool and swim almost every day. Even when we aren't it, looks beautiful and the water effects sound cool.
If you have an ounce of intellect and wherewithall it's pretty easy to maintain. But like many nice luxuries, it's not for everyone.

Cost me $15,000 10 years ago to get a pool removed, and filled in, exactly what it cost when the previous owners installed it in 1975.

If you live some place where this isn't just out of the question, then it is a very good way to go about pool ownership. Buy a big above ground when the kids are just swimming age and they'll be tired of it in a few years when it starts to fall apart. Save youself about 45 grand.

Sounds trashy.
I’ll just keep my private pool and invite just my friends and family over.

My wife likes to skinny dip on hot nights. That makes it worth ten times the cost of maintenance.

You should host an OTGT at your pool
Be sure to invite Paige though

Every time these threads pop up, I figure that either there's a ton of over-exaggeration going on, or I'm some type of 1-million anomaly with pools. I put in a gunite/salt water pool 4 years ago this August. To date I have only added salt, Muriatic Acid, and changed out a pack of cartridge filters. Cleaning takes about 20-30 minutes a week, although I have to admit I don't have any trees around me so that helps out a bunch. I clean the tiles and deck 2-3 times year, which takes up an additional weekend day or so each time. I'm sure eventually I'll get hit with some issues that will take time/money, but I just don't see what all the fuss is about maintaining a pool.
Almost my exact situation...4 years, gunite/salt and cartridge filter....I do very little maintenance —-it has been problem free.
We use the hot tub about 3-4 times a week from fall through spring.

I have a chlorine pool and I’m so glad i didn’t go the salt water route.
