Every year its something expensive. Liner needs to be replaced. Pump motor burned out. Filter broken. Sand worn down. Salt cell not working. Leaks. Breaks. frick this shite. And for what? A few pool parties and the chance to jump in the pool after cutting the grass when a hose would suffice just fine?

If this thread convinces one person to get down off the fence then I deserve a spot in heaven.

STAY
THE
frick

It may be trashy to live in a condo community, but using the pool without having to do any upkeep yourself has its perks.

Anytime someone asks me if I have a pool, I always say “I’ll sell it to you for $1”

My wife likes to skinny dip on hot nights. That makes it worth ten times the cost of maintenance.

Unfortunately, the idea of a salt water pool seemed awesome until reality set in.

I have a chlorine pool and I’m so glad i didn’t go the salt water route.

Still a stupid idea in retrospect but it did have it benefits

It sounds to me that you are not very good at maintaining a liner pool...

I have had a liner pool with, a
sand filter, for a number of years..I have had ZERO problems

Yep, good friend bought a house with a pool...she was so thrilled. And then got hit with a $7000 broken filter/pump issues first year.

Every time these threads pop up, I figure that either there's a ton of over-exaggeration going on, or I'm some type of 1-million anomaly with pools. I put in a gunite/salt water pool 4 years ago this August. To date I have only added salt, Muriatic Acid, and changed out a pack of cartridge filters. Cleaning takes about 20-30 minutes a week, although I have to admit I don't have any trees around me so that helps out a bunch. I clean the tiles and deck 2-3 times year, which takes up an additional weekend day or so each time.

I'm sure eventually I'll get hit with some issues that will take time/money, but I just don't see what all the fuss is about maintaining a pool.
