Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday... Do you participate in Lent and/or no meat on Fridays

I'll preface by saying I am not Catholic, but am Christian. I am thinking about doing for something for Lent this year as it is just a good practice in general. My main question is do you all do the no meat on Fridays. Many of my Catholic friends did not participate because in their opinion (and mine) it is a bit disingenuous. The whole I eat a turkey sandwich everyday for lunch, but I'm going to pick up a $18 shrimp poboy on Friday because I can't eat meat doesn't really sit right with me. I'm sure I'll get hate for that, but it never failed my college roommates went and grubbed out every Friday, which in my opinion is against the spirit of the entire thing. However, I did have a couple of friends that actually not eat meat or eat modestly on Lenten Fridays which I do respect.
So, what say you? What will you be doing for Lent if you participate, and will you be doing meatless Friday's?

I do meatless and try to eat less on fridays
Agree the massive seafood glutony during lent defeats the purpose

I am not catholic, but my parents are (sorta). So I will welcome them not eating meat on Fridays and will participate in eating the free crawfish at their house.

I am catholic, and I think you have a point. I don't go all out with seafood, because it's a treat for me. I normally do simple grilled cheese or pb&js. Tomorrow, Ash Wednesday, and Good Friday, the Passion are days of not only abstinence but fasting as well. So, I'll probably have coffee for breakfast, a small smoothie or Gatorade for lunch and a humble no meat meal for supper. It's a good practice if you follow the spirit of it. I don't do Mardi Gras either for that matter...

Yes, and I'll only eat fruit for lunch.

I’m not catholic but buy bulk meat during lent for the freezer. I don’t get the lent shite, but again I’m not Catholic.

I participate in lent by giving something up I feel is holding me back from being a better self. It's a solid symbolic gesture that shows real commitment to living the Christian life. This year its alcohol. It will be a tough challenge but will be a better man in 40 days.

Fish is meat!
That said, I grew up partially catholic(mom’s side) and no longer believe. But I do like to sacrifice something I enjoy for a month if only to be healthier and remind myself to be grateful.

No. I have made and continue to make sacrifices for my family. Im not depriving myself of meat on Fridays, or giving up something because a bunch of other people are doing it too.

I doubt God cares if I eat a ham sandwich on Friday’s. As a person who grew up catholic, I have always thought that’s the dumbest thing ever.

Giving up social media for lent. I’ve needed an excuse for a while.

I do it just to piss people of the OT off.

No. Grew up catholic and went to Catholic school my entire life.
I figure if there is a God, he has bigger things to worry about than my diet habits a few months of the year.

I give up football for Lent. I don't go to any football games during Lent.

Drives me nuts to see fellow Catholics missing the point
I'm glad to see others share a similar opinion. I may do meatless Friday's this year, and I'm allergic to shellfish so no shrimp or crawfish feasts for me.

Catholic. I'm fasting for the entirety of Lent. Water only for 48 days.
