Nah. I'll be avoiding superstition and eating a giant porterhouse cooked perfectly just shy of medium rare.
If you're going to go with a ritual, big fricking steak isn't a terrible one.

Well please go back and tell me where I said I go to crawfish boils on Lenten Friday’s?
I listed what my family typically eats on Fridays during lent. We do so with no fan fare. We aren’t seeking anyone’s approval.
Then go back and see how many other people are upset over what others eat.

Growing up we didn't indulge on Fridays like what's described here. We ate things like tuna salad sandwiches, fish sticks, frozen tombstone cheese pizzas, grilled cheese, pb&j sandwiches, etc.
Nowadays, I just eat whatever I want because breaking Lent rules is the least of my problems when it comes to God.

Yet you're posting here about it.

I was answering the question abd correcting the assumption that it is ok to sacrafice meat by going to a seafood buffet.
My choices are mine and reflect my understanding of Lent.
What you eat doesn’t bother me. But you getting lathered up over what I eat makes me wonder why.

Not lathered up, just making an observation that a period of quiet reflection, prayer, and self-sacrifice has, in general, become a "look at me" event for a lot of people. I'm old school lapsed Catholic. Your time during Lent should be personal, but it just isn't these days. Perhaps that's an artifact of our social media culture, but the sharing of what personal acts of contrition, penance, or self-restraint one was going to perform during the holiest part of the church year when a believer should be seriously thinking about the sacrifices made for them has always rubbed me wrong.
That said, I do unabashedly fricking love steak. Any day I can get a great steak in an empty steakhouse where the kitchen can focus on cooking steaks right instead of cranking them out en masse is a blessing to me. For that, I am thankful for Ash Wednesday.

Same thread every year.

Was raised Catholic, but I am no longer religious.
Agree that the seafood parties and "lenten menus" galore where people are capitalizing on something that is supposed to be modest and private are ridiculous, but I don't think actual fasting is ridiculous.
I eat modestly 5 days out of the week as it is, so I don't think it would be very healthy to go below that.

I am Catholic but believe the whole "no meat Friday" during lent is a bit out dated. If that's the deciding factor of where I spend eternity, so be it.

Lack of participating in Lent has no bearing on what happens in the after life.

Well, at least you could also call out the dickheads calling the Pope the Antichrist. It goes both ways.

Same. We didn't avoid a crawfish boil, but we didn't throw some celebration every Friday. Except for Good Friday. I'm not a practicing Catholic, but it's engrained in my culture I guess. I eat meat on Fridays all the time because I don't pay attention. But when I remember, I try not to. Just out of respect for my mom and stuff more than anything. She'd get pissed that I was being a bad Catholic I'm sure . Although I literally only identify as Catholic from a south LA cultural perspective.
I give up stuff because it's my second attempt at a new years resolution. I've always stumbled by now, so it's a kick in the but to do it right
