The reason catholics abstain from eating meat on Fridays during Lent is because Christ shed His blood on Good Friday. The blood He shed for us is so precious that we do not wish to shed blood on that day during Lent, not even an animal; therefore, we do not eat meat on Friday so we do not shed blood on Friday.

Fish bleed too. What's your lame excuse for that?

False. Meat is defined for Catholics as living on land.

Mental gymnastics to allow yourself to feel good about not really giving up anything.

That would be true if y'all didn't boast to everyone with an ear about how good of a Catholic you are because you have up RED meat on a few Fridays.

I was raised Catholic, and a Proddy on paper now, and don’t participate in Lent anymore but as a seafood lover I do enjoy the fact that BR seems to have more actual fresh fish and less frozen IQF shite during lent. Living on the coast, it shouldn’t take Lent to bring that here, but I’ll take what I can get I suppose even if it’s for a short time.

People who do this are assholes. It's already been covered but you decided to pick and choose which parts of posts to reply to.

So you have no other thoughts on your mind other than "Jesus died for me" 24/7?

It's symbolic, like most things Catholics do. No one is asking us to get crucified, just small sacrifices to remind you of a bigger one.

One thing I’ve noticed is that non-Catholics sure like to get worked up over the dietary habits of Catholics. Catholics become humbled during lent. Non-Catholics become envious.

No, we don’t. We just think it’s ridiculous all the cultish things y’all do.

Just because I don’t have that on my mind at all hours of the day, doesn’t also mean that I’ve forgotten it.

Yea I participate, but I don't mention it here because the OT turns to a bunch of melting snowflakes when you bring it up for some reason.

But you aren't thinking of it 24/7, meaning it's in the back of your mind and you need a small reminder to bring it to the forefront of your thoughts.

The church isn't saying you literally forgot Jesus died. It's saying during Lent, these small sacrifices are to be used to be continually thoughtful of his death.

It's not rocket appliances.

How about on Friday instead of giving a damn about what you eat try to do something positive that’ll actually make a difference and help a person in need

We do that too. As Catholics we are amazing multi-taskers.

Um most do. It’s what you’re supposed to do. Those are outwardly gestures to help others. The no meat is a simple inner self sacrifice to remind you of Jesus’ sacrifice.

This isn’t a hard concept. You can multitask. I don’t know why non Catholics get so butthurt during lent. Especially on a Louisiana website.

Christian imposters, that rarely ever understand Christ or his love.

Today is day 39 of no animal protein and counting. Imma keep going- it agrees with me. No inflammation , sleeping through the night and lost 15 lbs. Drinking that Mean Green daily too.

What a selfish bastard. You are doing this for your personal health and to make yourself feel better.

You need to find some group of like minded individuals that follow some creed set forth for absolutely no reason years ago and do what one of their leaders tells you.

Just kidding baw. Congrats on getting woke.

I participate in the Lenten practice of having a penance and fasting.

I do not however, get on board with "no meat" on Fridays during lent.

The dietary restrictions during lent are pure bullshite. If I want to eat meat, I'm going to. It is NOT a sin. It is a man made rule that is complete nonsense.

Furthermore, could you imagine getting to heaven and going through your life with the almighty, getting an A+ the whole way through except that you stopped at Chick Fil A on a Friday during lent in 2009?

You think he really gives a shite about you having a chicken sandwich on a certain day?
