Like someone else said - this guy is trying to dump his property. Preferably to an entity that will have financial backing from the local govt because if/when it fails, it'll just be an "oh well" moment.

To do that would entail the principals who comprise the LHSAA to have a thimble full of common sense.

Rundown fields would look much better than a rundown mall. I vote for the soccer field.

If you’re going to copy anything from Houston, turn it into a BR version of Harwin. Harwin dr is basically in a shite area, too.

Make it a rugby pitch, and I'm in. We need local feeder teams for the Eagles. At least combo it.

Does BR have an indoor soccer field currently?

Also, does this proposition entail leveling the mall and all the outparcels, or does it make use of them in this idea?

I don't even think they have a soccer field with decent bleachers.

It would be a great location for another BREC-type field complex. 15+ youth fields, some softball/baseball diamonds, and a central stadium/amphitheater for HS games/regional events.

i'm not in favor of tax dollars being spent on this, but it would be easier to stomach if it was some sort of athletic facility soccer/roundball/softball.

Maybe they can build that, then knock down/replace the old Memorial stadium.

ETA: is either the Cortana site or Memoral site an appropriate place for a zoo?

There isn’t a sizable Latino population in BR to sustain a soccer team? I think there absolutely is.

Cortana is in a Bad area that no one will go to and there is no planned use for the facility.

Cortana is not in a bad area of town. It’s just a classic example of urban decay. It’s a stones throw from Goodwood, Tara, and Broadmoor neighborhoods. Very easy access for mid city neighborhoods and Sherwood Forrest as well.

That area actually has great potential if the right types of businesses are brought in.

In fact, a furban development around the stadium (think Perkins Rowe) would add a lot of amenities. It could have a similar setup to the area around the FC Dallas stadium in Frisco.

Cortana has plenty of room if they level the entire mall, but Memorial does not. The issue with converting Cortana into a zoo is the tear down cost and that there would be zero trees for the first 20 years.

That makes it significantly cheaper for BREC to build on land they already own for a zoo.

How significant? If it’s worth spending $150 million then going the extra mile and putting it in a place that actually is a great location makes sense.

The proposed location is shite. They are settling for less and I would rather they fix the current zoo than move it too a terrible location that caters to another parish.

There are actually lots of trees on the property. If they preserve those and work them into the design it’s more than the Airline location has.
