Time of the year when my church is in their stewardship push. My wife and I can't get on the same page. I'm a fan of trying to do the 10% but wife wants to give considerably less than that.

We give consistently every month… But we don’t tithe by definition....

We try to give on a consistent basis. It may not be much, and I will admit it is not 10%.

We give a consistent amount each month, but it's not even half a percent of our income. Now that I've calculated it, I feel a little cheap.

But the Catholic church has enough money.

More power to you brother. Is your church one of those super churches?

We do but it’s not 10% to the church. Although I consider other charitable donations and even my taxes to be included towards that 10% in which I give a good bit more than double.

We give the same amount every month and we do so cheerfully. We don’t miss it and we trust that our church is a good steward of God’s resources.

I’ve thought several times about asking this question here before, but the bottom line is that this is a decision between you, your wife, and God.

Absolutely. Best financial decision you'll ever make.

We don't tithe.

But we ask the church what events are going on and ask if anything needs sponsoring.

Then we can pick and choose exactly what our money is going towards to help and know that it is helping individuals.

We had a couple of things sponsored for us when we were in a different money situation and it meant a ton. So we decided to do the same.

No. But then again, I would have serious qualms about joining any church that would have me as a member.

Giving 10% or MONEY(tithe) is not scriptural, just as someone being paid to preach isnt(Matt. 10:8;9). Donating what you can? There is nothing wrong with that. Unfortunately MOST churches and clergy are all about bringing in the money.

10% of income, yes, but not just the church. Consistent amount each month and special offerings as they arise.

Doing the math I give around 2.5 - 3% in cash to my church each year. Total monetary donations to various causes for those truly in need is around 10 - 12% each year. Post-tax fwiw.

It is a part of my decision making process when formulating my budget.

Try to find a "tithe" in the New Testament. You won't.
The obligation of giving is part of Old Testament (mosaic) law, and is not a tenet of the Christian church.

Give whatever you wish, and do it cheerfully...whether money, time, a service, or giving to someone in need.

Pastors use this 10% thing incorrectly, but it sticks.

If the church ACTUALLY tithed acc. to the Old Testament definition of a tithe, then they'd be giving roughly 50% of all their income to the church, and I believe 100% every seventh year.

My wife and I give monthly as well. In fact we give to two different churches as we are transitioning from our current church to a new church plant - still give the same amount just split it between two churches.

I believe we give just above 10% of our gross income. With that said - we don’t believe the church teaches that we must give 10% but we use that as a basis anyways.

I focus on giving justice and mercy. No mint, dill, cumin, or cash.

During Lent and Advent.

It's not all directly to the Church - some goes to charitable organizations.

A set amount for a tithe % is stupid. Depends on your situation.

We give the church enough to make sure we get the discount for our kids tuition at school. I think it's around $600 a year.
We give/spend a bunch of more money throughout the year for school and other charity fundraisers and that's good enough for me.
