I'm trying to get some advice on LSU dorms since my son will be on campus next fall. Thanks.

Side question: Are freshman forced to live in dorms first year now? I thought I heard something about that. Thanks.

Yes, all freshman must live on campus, unless they commute from home daily.

We used to light fires in trash cans at the Pentagon.

Not the Pentagon or or Horse Shoe. Try to get in the newer ones like BRC or ERC unless you want him to have a "this is disgusting but awesome" dorm experience then go Kirby Smith or Dirty Herg.

Dorms are great. You can always find dope and penicillin is free at the med center. Your son is gonna have a blast.

Kirby or bust.
Seriously, don't waste your money. He will probably spend most of his time at his boyfriends place anyway.

Herget was pretty fun when I was there... pretty sure the smallest rooms on campus, but I always thought that kind made people be social..had some awesome times in the lobby/patio

I remember Blake being nice and newly renovated when I was there. But I'd honestly go for the dirty dorm experience. Herget > Kirby.

I had a blast living in the Pentagon.

Tell him to live at El Cid

Kirby Smith 4 Life!
When I lived there, there was a dude who had an airbrushed tshirt he always wore with an airbrushed picture of the building that said "Kickin' it at the Kirb." That's dorm loyalty.

THIS. I lived at Kirby Smith - 13(ish) floors of just dudes. It was brutal. I could have killed my friends who were smart enough to live in Herget.
A fun thing that happened to me at Kirby Smith: one night during finals week (a week before move-out) someone ripped out the elevator control panel on my floor. Rather than investigate or just take the loss, LSU divided the $5000 repair cost to all the people who lived on my floor. It was like $300/person. Now that I'm an adult I realize how insane that was.

My advice is to avoid the older dorms (Pentagon, Herget, McVoy, Horseshoe, etc) and move into the newer ones that have been built in the last 10 years. I'm sure res-life does a tour if you want to do that.

How can they enforce this exactly?
What if you have an older sibling that has an apartment?
What if your family owns a condo near campus? Can you live there if it's not your primary residence?
Just curious as to how this all works.

If your kid likes semen and vomit, I would recommend Kirby Smith. If he likes Hep C, then El Cid is the way to go.
