Pentagon is not the nicest but is the best in terms of proximity to class.
WCA is where many of the athletes live. If your son is athletic, he will score himself a female athlete pretty easy there. it can be pretty chaotic there though
Most of the dorms are in very good shape but as already mentioned you should avoid Kirby Smith at all costs.

My advice is to avoid the older dorms (Pentagon, Herget, McVoy, Horseshoe, etc)
I disagree. Living in a shitbox builds character.

Ok... it might help if you have any specific questions.

How can they enforce this exactly?
What if you have an older sibling that has an apartment?
What if your family owns a condo near campus? Can you live there if it's not your primary residence?
Just curious as to how this all works.
There are ways to get around most everything if you have the initiative. Most of the time it's easier to just go with the flow. Everybody ought to live on campus for at least a couple of semesters. There's a lot to be said for having everything close by you.

I'm with you. Living in McVoy was simultaneously one of the best and worst experiences of my life.

Talk to the older guys who lived in the stadium dorms. It was the time of their lives.

Tell him to declare engineering or business. Regardless of whether or not he wants to do either, they will let him into the Engineering Residential College dorm or the Business Residential College dorm.

Pentahood was awesome. Didn't have an RA on my stack and I don't think I ever saw the cops come in there once.
However, there will be people that basically live on a disgusting couch in the courtyard all semester who don't even live in those dorms and maybe not even go to LSU.

I was in Highland Hall for the first year. No air con but you got used to it pretty quick. The rest of the time I was in one of the Lavilles...East or West...whichever wasn't the chick dorm. I liked living on campus. I worked part time in Allen Hall, so everything I needed was right there. LSU is a city in itself.

I'm here to rep McVoy. Disgusting but a completely amazing experience as an 18 year old. If you don't live in a dorm freshman year you're doing it wrong. The perfect time to get down and dirty and live a stereotypical college life.

What year were you at the McHood?

2012, lived in the room directly across from the stairs, 3rd floor. Some weird anomaly, a pipe that passed by the head of my bed also passed directly behind the paper towel dispenser. At certain times whenever someone pressed the PT dispenser it sounded like someone was taking a baseball bat to the other side of the wall. I was also on the end of the building and close to the dumpsters. Whenever the garbage truck would come it would slam those things down multiple times to empty them into the truck. It was the loudest thing I had ever heard and happened weekly. But I wouldn't change a thing. There's nothing like freshman year in the dorms at LSU. Good times.

Ah. I was there 2007-2008. I was in the 4th floor kitchen fall, and I got moved to the first floor in the spring. We fricked that place up pretty bad... the year after us they replaced the furniture with prison style indestructible furniture because we had messed the old stuff up. Also, found a way onto the roof through an unlocked door and broken latch and used some ropes to pull patio furniture up there. Used to hang out on the roof drinking beers and smoking. Good times. I think the statute of limitations has passed for this by now...
