IDK why but I get a bit pissed when someone calls me bud. I never say anything and just go with the flow but it does irk me.
Anyone else?
What about other terms of endearment, "chief" or "boss", etc?

Sure whatever you say bud.

The only one that bugs me is when someone calls me "guy".
I don't know why, it just bugs me.

I call everyone bro. Well everyone I don't actively dislike that is.
So I call a few people bro. (male of course, the females I call them sweet cheeks.)

I hear, "thanks a-hole" a lot. So when I hear, "bud" or "chief" just means it's gonna be a good day.

"bud" is a bit condescending.

I take exception to being called pal.

Oh, and southern women are very good at being subtly condescending when it comes to this stuff.
"honey"
"sweetheart"
"baby"

“Bud” doesn’t bother me at all but “buddy” does. I’m not your buddy, guy.

To answer OP, it depends on the situation. Some people are just good ole ignorant boys and say it to be nice, some people say it as a slight. I've got better things to do than let someone piss me off for using a term like that though.
I use sir a lot, "yes sir" if I don't know the guys name. Odd when people get irked by that which happens somewhat regularly.

Anyone who uses bud, chief, boss to someone IRL is a douche. As evidenced by bartenders, gas station clerks, waiters, etc
Just stfu and pour my drink/bring my food

Bud, chief, lad, all things I call friends.
Sometimes sir, but usually that is reserved for elders.
