"chief" is not a term of endearment
it's a term of condescension

IDK why but I get a bit pissed when someone calls me bud. I never say anything and just go with the flow but it does irk me. Anyone else? What about other terms of endearment, "chief" or "boss", etc

Lighten up Francis.

What about Mack?

No one uses that around here.....must be a Southern thing.

("Mack" does sound like '50's film noir dialogue.)

I call people bud all the time. It’s habit. Why would it piss me off if someone called me bud? It never crossed my mind that trying to be nice could be offensive to some insecure a-hole.
