If it’s an informal meeting and I have no intention of remembering a guy’s name, I’ll call him “man”.
Person: “this is Joe.”
Duck: “hey, man, nice to meet you.”
Joe: “I can tell you’re a dick”
Of course, if it’s a formal meeting, I’ll call them by their name because that’s the only way I can remember it.

Just call them bud or bucko right back. You can see the anger build in their face. Then tell them to bring you your food

It only bothers me when someone more than half my age says it, as I do find it a bit disrespectful, and would never have said it when I was younger to someone older than myself. I can’t recall anyone my age ever calling someone that.

I have a neighbor that was in the army for a few years, I was an officer in the Air Force. Ever since he found out that info he has called me sir. Drives me crazy. I have no idea if he is being a smart arse or is so ate up with his military experience. He is mid 40's and I am 43, so definitely not a sir to him.

You better check my fricking knuckles before you call me "bud" or "chief," just putting that out there.

That would be an appropriate place to call me "Chief" because if we're at Sonic you're about to catch a beatdown anyway.
