Picked up a new rifle earlier. This is my first rifle larger than .308 and I'm really excited to shoot it as I'm making a couple big game hunts in the next several weeks.
Specs
Remington 700 Action (blueprinted and side bolt release)
Timney Calvin Elite Trigger
24" Proof Research Carbon Fiber Barrel
McMillan Stock (hydrodipped)
20 MOA base
Custom muzzle brake
Carbon fiber bolt knob
skeletonized bolt handle
it will wear a vortex viper pst 4-16 that ive had sitting in the safe from another project for now.
So OB Wizards...whats your favorite 300WM hunting cartridge?

Im assuming you are reloading since you have a custom rifle. The barnes long range bullets are hard to beat hunting wise. Im shooting the 175s but if you wanted to shoot the 200s they would be just as good if not better. Nosler partitions 180grs are awesome too just not as accurate. For powder the win mag will almost always shoot h1000 the best. But RL22 and IMR 4350 are good too.

I will eventually. With work and kiddo growing faster by the day I'm having trouble finding time to shoot, much less work up a load for this gun. I've got some Federal Vital Shok 180gr that i'll be trying first. Was trying to find Barnes TTSX but it seems to be sold out across the nation.
Thanks for your thoughts and opinions, will be handy when I do get back to the reloading bench.

I am extremely jealous. That is easily one of the top setups on the OB. That McMillan is BEAUTIFUL.

I know I know...
the vortex will be replaced with something nicer (razor HD or another US Optics possibly)
Tough to justify now being it was sitting free in the closet and I also ordered a thunderbeast 338 ultra earlier this week

You'll need to test and see what your rifle likes but one I'd include is a bullet with the Hornady ELD-X.
I'm reloading some for my 6.5 cm but haven't had time to shoot them yet but they are getting glowing reviews.
Hornady Precision Hunter
And before I forget, you will really, really want some hearing protection with that brake on there. Have some handy when hunting as well.

Don't feel bad, I put a $500 Nikon on a rifle that cost way more than $500.

I'd like to see how my paralegal would react if I had my rifle sitting on my desk aimed out into the hall.

My 300 WBY likes 180 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips

I didn't even know that was a thing. How about that?

I bet she kicks like hell.
My old 700 likes 180gr hornady SST. Shot it a 330yds the other day, center mass with abt 5" hold.

Like one of the others said, you will have to find the bullet that your gun likes to shoot. I have the Winchester M70 Super Grade in 300WM and I am shooting the Hornady 200gr ELD X. 3 shot group under .5 MOA at 100. Using a 4-14x56 Leupold VX3L w/CDS.

likely so since it weighs in just under 7 pounds without a scope. hoping the brake, and eventually the suppressor tames it a bit but I'm sure it will be fine.

I doubt it's that bad with the brake those things work wonders but are loud as hell.

I killed alot of deer with my Browning 300WM using Fed. 180 Vital Shocks. With that caliber you can hit a deer in the knee and it will die
Congrats on the sore shoulder!

I've never shot a real rifle with a suppressor. Does it quiet them down enough to shoot without ear plugs?

Depends on the can as far as size and who makes it. Also, DB isn't everything, tone matters a ton. Many cans you can but some it may get uncomfortable to shoot without earpro after a few shots. So the answer depends on a few variables.
