Sure, but the other Jacksonville poster is talking about it like it's just another Thursday at work tomorrow.

I'm in west palm not Jville

I called my boss at the hospital and he said it IS business as usual at the hospital. Told him I was thinking about leaving with me my two little kids and pregnant wife tomorrow and he took me off schedule. I think they're basically letting anyone who wants to leave go.

NHC is notoriously conservative in intensity forecasts. It's better for them to forecast it as a 4 and it hits as a 5 then forecast at 5 and it hits at 3/4 because that erodes everyone's opinion of them and next time people won't take it seriously. Also maintaining 5 strength is very hard to do so they are going off past experience. Give them some credit they have been doing this a long time and have data that we don't have access to.

Nope, Barbuda has been cutoff from the world for over 12 hours.

I am worried about my parents that lives in the Tattnall County area that is close to Ft. Stewart. Do anybody think that the second landfall will still be on the GA/SC border

Fact

Also, for the 1st time since 2010 there are 3 active hurricanes in the Atlantic with Irma, Jose and Katia.

The Prime Minister's response to Barbuda prior to going to Barbuda would make Mitch Landrieu proud. Now reports 98% of all structures destroyed and possibly over 1000 deaths.

If I hadn't see it with my own eyes TWICE in 2 weeks, I'd think those fancy GFS and HWRF models were crazy.

What's interesting is all the models keep predicting her dropping to a 4 by the time she hits Miami, but the pressures from the models are all in the 5 range. Also they all seem notoriously bad at predicting strength. I remember the night before Irma turned into a Cat 5 there wasn't a single "forecast" with her turning into a 5. Now it's been

Yeah, they struggle with intensity quite a bit. The NHC makes their own adjustments in order to account for things the models don't handle well.

According to the NHC, Irma is forecast to be a Category 5 for the next 48 hours, and has been a Category 5 for 42 hours already. The current record for an Atlantic storm is 78 hours as a Category 5, so they believe Irma will break it.

Mixed messages about Barbuda, hit directly by #HurricaineIrma. Some reports no fatalities, others say 1000+ dead. No contact for 12 hours ??

One of the most ill-timed statements I can remember. The jackass was praising the government when he didn't even talk to Barbuda. Now he's on ground saying oh shite

French Islands Update

Apparently 2 deaths known and waiting on winds to die down before sending helicopters to view damage on St. Martin and St. Barts.

Those are estimated pressures from the recon flight itself. The dropsonde will confirm somewhere in the 911-916 range I'd imagine.
