If I hadn't see it with my own eyes TWICE in 2 weeks, I'd think those fancy GFS and HWRF models were crazy.

That 911 probably isn't accurate. Have to wait for a VDM.

ETA: VDM 115 & 180mph

Mixed messages about Barbuda, hit directly by #HurricaineIrma. Some reports no fatalities, others say 1000+ dead.

That's almost impossible.

Why can't they get the cranes down now??

Hell, there may simply not be enough crews close enough that know how to tear down a tower crane to get that many cranes down in the time they have. It's not a two or three hour task.

They just need the ratchet straps used on the shed.

I'm betting mixed info and it's like 1,000 homes/structures destroyed. I can believe that, their main town is like 20 ft elevation on the coast

Andrew was a very small hurricane and devastated south of Miami. Miami itself and northward didn't get the brunt of the storm.

Semantics. It could have been a lot worse, but they still had a lot of damage. Lucky, to me, would be missing the storm altogether.

Early report: one fatality

But how many have been found alive? The Island's population is a little over 1000 people so they should get a pretty good head count.

Let's hope so. Typhoon Haiyan killed over 6,000 people.

praising the government when he didn't even talk to Barbuda. Now he's on ground saying oh shite

He should have done his homework. Antigua is 40 miles south of Barbuda. That is a huge difference in conditions - especially in a Cat 5. Plus Antigua was in the SW quad of Irma - the relatively weakest part of tropical cyclone while Barbuda was in the eye wall twice.

Because there's only around 1000 people living on the island.

It's practically radio silence out of St. Barth. A few social media posts but with no electricity and no way for anyone to access the island right now, it's hard to get the word out.
