You're overthinking it. Cersei is pretty much ready to agree to an armistice to buy time because she knows she's outmanned on the battlefield. She said as much when talking to Jaime.
She says a lot of things though, hard to take what she says at face value - even to Jaime after her "don't ever betray me again" comment.

Realistically ANY plan predicated upon Cersei voluntarily joining in a United war effort in good faith is dumb. Like really dumb. Danny has people around her that should know this, which is why I don't understand this plot line at all.
Sansa needs to come to Dragonstone to warn Dany about Cersei. Then they can engage in "negotiations" about the future of the 7 kingdoms.

quote:Yes, these are good reasons for Cersei to agree to a ceasefire.
Except (a) if Cersei is in such bad shape she wants and armistice then you should just finish her and (b) this is still a recipe to be betrayed.
By extension, these are reasons Dany shouldn't offer it.
But I guess my question goes into the idea of overall cooperation, joint defense etc.
I mean, of course if Dany says "I won't attack you or storm King's Landing, are you ok with that?", Cersei (and any other leader in real or fictional history) will say yes to that.
But the idea of opening up the gates and exposing your castle and army (I'm assuming they will offer a joint resistance); again, the "proof" of the threat Dany's side will offer is a zombie. Cersei already knows firsthand, from what Qyburn did to the Mountain, that having a zombie in chains does not necessarily mean the Night King is involved. It just means there's someone with arcane knowledge in play. Cersei has Qyburn, she and her advisors should at least consider Dany to have similar resources at her disposal.
Qyburn should state- if the field were reversed, and we had them trapped and besieged, you know I could create another zombie, to present as 'evidence'. All the firsthand accounts of a vast army of these are coming from her, and her ally Jon Snow; it could definitely be a ruse. Due to Snow, I don't trust the Wall and Night's Watch to be impartial.
I'd go along with this as long as it means they're not burning down the towers and Red Keep, but I wouldn't open the gates to their forces, and I wouldn't send our remaining troops out to the field.
Perhaps you should ask if someone you trust can be shown greater evidence; be escorted to and from the Wall. Someone who could verify the actual danger, and more to the point, someone who would be able to scout their forces and defenses, and see if we can find an advantage. It should be someone you trust, but can afford to lose if it's a trick. Tarly would have been perfect, but she just incinerated him.

I just don't understand why Dany doesn't get 3 dozen Dothraki on her dragons backs and go kill Cersei in the Red Keep. Should have done that immediately when she got to Westeros. Wouldn't burn down shite, and the only casualties would be some of the City Watch, the Mountain, and Cersei. Tyrion could probably convince Dany to let them spare Jaime since he wouldn't be capable of fighting anyway and to let Jaime take the Black for killing Aerys.

Don't think Drogon would be cool with 12 random dothraki on its back

Yes. The general consensus on the board seems to be that this side mission is a very bad plan. It should be fun to watch though.

quote:I would be interested in Qyburn's examination of a wight. He's got Maester education, plus all the forbidden stuff that got him kicked out. If he could figure out how to turn them on/off, it's a game changer on many levels (shut down the NK's army and allow the Men to kill the WWs, then turn them on again under the control of Cersei etc).

They could construct some sort of basket to carry them in as an airlift situation. Set them down and let all hell break loose.
But, then you'd have to worry about the "science" of how much weight can a dragon successfully lift and carry.

With the whole dragon rider thing I don't think the dragons let just any old body ride them. I'm pretty sure there's only been like 1-2 people who have successfully rode one that wasn't a targ

Bottom line I think is they wanted to have a group of popular characters go on a mission north of the wall and skirmish with the NK, WW and Army of the Dead. Something with a "fellowship of the ..." or "magnificent seven" or "suicide squad" vibe.
Sure they kind of shoe horned the rationale for it in, but I've decided just to accept some logic that might be slightly flawed as the show winds up.
I only hope they do it up right - and by that I mean do the dialogue right. I think the action stuff will be as impressive as always.

The Mountain isn't the only zombie not brought back by the NK. Let's not forget that Beric and Jon Snow are also Walking Dead.

The thought of this makes me laugh. It's not a bad idea though!
I'm very proud of all of you who have held strong and not fallen to the dark side. Just hold on a little longer! If you get drunk all weekend, it will make time pass quicker!

So, how many spoilers have been posted in this thread? I'm sure they're flying in the maester thread. The "kill one dragon and turn it into an ice dragon" predictions were obviously spoilers.
Posted on 8/21/17 at 11:00 am to blueboy
I don't know of any that occurred here and didn't see any accusations of such, though some have been accused of it in the Maester thread.

Maybe, i didn't read any spoilers or but did watch this episode early and proposed that this was a possibility either early on in the season or leading up to the season - i can't remember exactly when. I said this simply because the HBO promo with an ice dragon on the wall confirmed that an ice dragon was coming to me. So either NK already had it or it had to be killed / turned.
I'm sure there are some spoilers but it isn't that crazy of a prediction - especially for those who had seen the promo.

Thoros dying is the one I accidentally saw in a YouTube comment, so that's over with. I can't think of any more "theories" that I know of, so I guess I'm clean and can avoid all of the threads until it's done. If this week leaks, I might just cave in and watch it just so I can read the threads.
Was it ever conformed that there are leaks for next season?
