No it wouldn't. You don't really think it will either.
Incorrect.

I doubt very, very few look at a confederate statue and think that is a symbol of the good ole days when we could own slaves. That's fricking absurd. You dont believe that.
You are quite out of touch if you don't think that's the case.

What's your understanding of why they went up all over the south during the jimcrow era so long after the war ended?

Let's gauge your ability to accept basic rationale before we go any further. Just because some truths are obvious it's no guarantee you're willing to face facts.

What was the main cause of the civil war, in your understanding of history?
You cant answer a question with a question. Show me proof of what you stated. You cant invent your own facts.

Well in this country we have a history of honoring Wars years after they're over. Most recently with all the World War 2 museums that have gone up in the past 10 years. As that's of Wars get old Society tends to honor them. There is a lot of footage of former Union and Confederate soldiers Gathering Together years after the war to reminisce.

What a cop out response
Posted on 8/15/17 at 11:11 am to TbirdSpur2010
You think that's a cop out but it's true
Posted on 8/15/17 at 11:12 am to Placebeaux
It's a cop out compounded by a false equivalency, to be precise.

Still none of you cluck bitches have answered my question about how you know it's a fact that the statues were erected just to hurt black people's feelings.
Y'all getting owned worse than slaves in 1800s in this thread you just too stupid to realize it

We're those soldiers fighting WW2 traitors to America or trying to tear apart our country? Horrible false equivalency. Surely you can do better.

That is why they were erected though. Disgruntled losers in the south wanted to remind blacks who was boss.
It's our history. Good and bad. It should be remembered. Should be that way for any society.

lets just agree that his premise as to why the statues were made is correct
can he articulate why that matters today?

So... How do you feel about honoring and immortalizing Julius Caesar? Alexander the Great? Ghengis khan? Nero? Several of the British kings? Damn near any and all leaders of the separatist movements that created many of the countries we know today? How about George Washington? The racist slave owner whom rebelled and founded a country built on slavery?
How do the statues of these men make you feel? Each and every one of them commited far worse atrocities, far more genocidal acts, we're extreme racist against those not like them.
Are these figures okay? If so, why are they okay?

Museums are for remembering

You have still yet to answer which statues have been placed in museums

It does nothing. Its about the "symbolism" and feelings it gives them. The democrats don't put forth practical solutions, only abstract platitudes and virtue signaling.

Maaaaaybe (just spitballing here), not publicly celebrating a cause that was fought with the direct stated intent of keeping black people from rising above their station in general would go a little ways toward promoting racial harmony this country desperately needs?
How's that working out?

What does being a traitor to the US have to do with if they were good or bad men? One man's hero is another man's villain. No matter what historical figure you name, there is a case to be made on why they are really a HORRIBLE person. So what you're saying is that whom YOU choose to be horrible are the ones who are horrible. Any one else's opinions on who is horrible is wrong and just needs to build a bridge and get over it.
Name a historical figure who is immortilized via statues and monuments. And I'll tell you how and why they are a horrible person and shouldn't be immortilized.

Thank you. This isn't some great mystery.
To your question, becuae monuments are nothing more than politics masquerading as art, always has been. Their message remains intact, just because you don't think it matters (which is absurd, Americans LOVE symbolism and put a high value on it) it does.
Why can't a community where that statue is (say cville) collectively decide to reject those politics and move or take down the statue???

They can.
I just think it sets an awful precedence. And the path it leads down is long, slow, and just full of pettiness. And in the end, it leads nowhere.
