Maybe they are tired of having to look up and see second place trophies created to remind black people that at one time they were property of the people who created the statue.

It's kind of hard to take any group serious who is so deadset on self destruction as the black race.

Nothing, but they're already here.

So they should stay because they are already here?

I like that argument for DACA recipients and undocumented workers, but then, they offer something beyond psychological satisfaction.

Maaaaaybe (just spitballing here), not publicly celebrating a cause that was fought with the direct stated intent of keeping black people from rising above their station in general would go a little ways toward promoting racial harmony this country desperately needs?

This is how I think of it, but I also realize it won't stop there. People always find something to rage against.

I don't think the majority of the population even notices these statues or assigns any value to them, So this is just one of those "I'm drawing a line in the sand" deals from both sides.

All that said, the monuments represent a rebellion that was quelled so why do we have them again?

I'm no crusader for the removal of any/all confederate monuments, but don't play dumb and act like you don't know from where such sentiment originates.

Do a little research about the draft riots in NYC, or about how many slave owners there were in the union, DURING the civil war.

Blacks were treated marginally better in the north than the south... once they got past the slave holding union states.

To remember the people who volunteered to protect their homes and families from invading armies.

You think Sherman would have cared if you were a union sympathyzer when he rolls through your town killing, burning, and raping everything in front of him?

Based on your statement you would have been content to just watch your family suffer because you didnt want to do anything about it.

You know you can disagree with a post without being a bitch right?

Sit down, junior. You certainly don't know who I am.

It's doesn't. If anything it hurts them. Tax money is being used for this when it could go to city programs instead

Tell you what? That I wouldn't fight to protect my family? What the frick does that have to do with wondering out loud why we have monuments up that pay homage to a failed rebellion? I don't begrudge people wanting to honor their heritage, if that's what they want to do. But again, it was a failed rebellion.

That says nothing about my protecting my family. But go ahead and be an Internet tough guy since I can't pop that jaw out of place through a keyboard.

So in one sentence you tell me that you cant understand why people should be remembered for fighting for a failed rebellion, yet in another you tell me you would join said failed rebellion to protect your family...

Yeah, those two things are clearly related. Idk how you even make that connection but I don't really want to wander into that level of stupid.

Why does an African American child having to walk past a monument of Robert E. Lee, a man known only for betraying his country to subjugate the child's race in continued slavery, help the child in any way?

Your argument is that liberals are triggered by statues now. Amazing.

My argument is that public space should not be used to honor men who do not deserve honor.

Why do French and Germans and British children have to walk in front of monuments to julius caesar who commited genocide against their ancestors and enslaved those whom weren't put to the sword?
