ESPN Trade Machine says Milwaukee is $1.5 million over the tax. How on earth did they get there?
Asik for Henson and then stretching Asik gets them out of the tax and saves them about $6-$7 million long term not counting the tax savings from this year which would be at least $5 considering you go from tax payer to tax receiver. Normally I'd say the problem is they could surely find a better dump of Henson than Asik, but all I keep hearing is nobody wants bigs right now.

asik's agent is jim tanner
here's his client list
He is too small potatoes to help orchestrate a trade of Asik. Too bad he doesn't have an agent with higher profile clients he can leverage to help get Asik moved.

Monroe and Hawes opted in. They really thought Monroe was going to test free agency after having a decent season. They also still have $5M on the books for Larry Sanders.
I think they will stretch Hawes to get uner the tax. They will still try to trade Henson, but it wont be to take back Asik.

Dell is trying but most teams are asking for TWO firsts to take Asik's deal. It's insane. That contract will haunt him forever.
I'm on board with just holding on to Asik through the season. I'm not giving Dell picks to dump his mistake.

I think we have enough guards. If we re-sign Cunningham, the Pels will have solid reserves behind AD and Boogie (Cunningham, Diallo, Ajinca). I would like an upgrade at SF, that's all we really need at this point. Babbitt, Shabazz, or Beasley would be nice for the minimum.
We obviously need to get rid of Asik's and Qpon's contracts. The only teams that will trade for them are: teams in tank mode or winning teams looking to dump a bad contract. Players I think we could get: Bazemore, Carroll, Ross, Crabbe.

Agreed. I'm not passing on the opportunity to make a Cousins-type deal in the future, for the chance to add Ian Clark (using as example) right now.

I agree. There are going to be a lot of teams wanting to change directions in the next year or 2 and the cap crunch will mean they'll have to do it through trades. Using assets to dump Asik now only to watch him become a useful financial instrument for the team you traded him to would be infuriating. Pay cash and 2nds to make QPon/Ajinca go away if you have to, but no 1sts for cap space.

Take away his alfredo sauce.

Dude you're kidding. Come on this contract isn't as bad as it use to be and there are much worse contract these days.
MM what happens if we just keep Asik and Ajinca on the books for now and try to trade them at the deadline or next summer? Wouldn't their contacts before much more valuable? My only worry with trading for Carrol or Mozgov is that it'll hog tie us from actually getting someone that can move the needle for this team

I was on the Bazemore train at one time, but i don't want him anymore. I'd easily rather Solo. Solo is cheaper, and shoots just as good if you can believe that, and is a better defender.
I'd replace Carroll with Solo. I wouldn't want both of them on the team. I'll take the less years of Carroll, even though i think Solo is a better player, just not by that much.
I'd take Ross's $10M for 2 years in a heartbeat.
Crabbe is just not good enough at that price. Say you trade Moore and whatever for him, you'd have $25M Jrue, $23M Crabbe, $12M Solo, $25M AD, $35M Cousins. That's $120M in your starting lineup, and it's not winning you a championship.
We cannot take on a player making $15M+. He'd have to be a real difference maker and Solo or Moore would have to get traded, as well as Asik, or it just wouldn't make much sense to pay all that money to be a 5th or 6th seed in the West.
Just sit tight this year and wait for Lebron to leave after he gets his arse whipped again, Kyrie gets pissed that he leaves and says he isn't resigning there, so they have to look to trade him, and we can give them whatever the hell they want outside of AD. Hell i'd even give them Cousins if that's what it took. I think AD/Kyrie/Jrue is a much much better core than with Cousins.

Asik, Ajincia, Q-pond for $10 in subway coupons and 25% of coffee refills at CC's for 1 year.

pretty interesting breakdown of free agency and some of it's pitfalls from Ben Falk's excellent Cleaning the Glass blog

This is a phenomenon known as the Winner’s Curse, where the winner of the bid will be the most likely to have priced it incorrectly. It applies to many types of bidding situations, and NBA free agency is no exception.
quote:
Some teams want the instant gratification
Some teams pay too much attention to what just happened, spending on a player who had a suddenly good season or playoff run. Some overpay to keep their own free agents, falling victim to the endowment effect and thinking more highly of something they already have

there are problems like this in any method of acquiring players. Drafting and trading also present opportunities to fall victim to these types of mistakes. There’s one big factor, though, that makes free agency particularly challenging: the contract rules of the NBA’s Collective Bargaining Agreement

His contract is still terrible.
Think of it this way -- A first round pick could likely fetch $5-7 million in a trade (if teams were allowed to pay that much)
Asik is owed 25 million and you will get NOTHING out of him. Maybe, in a best case scenario, he will have some value in the summer of 2019, but I have to pay 22 million between now and then, just to get there. Why would I do that for one first round pick with a street value of maybe 5-7 million?

Tank drivers are valuable in today's NBA game. #TrustTheProcess

That would be my pitch to Atlanta -- you want to be REALLY bad? Take on Asik, Ajinca, and Pon. Unfortunately, Brooklyn has no incentive to be bad and they would be a great partner otherwise. I'd try the same with Phoenix. I'd give them the 3 plus a pick for Tyson Chandler and TJ Warren
Posted on 7/19/17 at 1:30 pm to Crewz
Brooklyn had about $20 million in wasted cap space last season that could have been earning them an asset. I know teams keep that space open just in case a good opportunity comes along, but you're a terrible rebuilding team. The only opportunity that will come along is for you to rent your cap space for future assets.

We now have the best PF & C, a top 10 SG (Jrue),and a pure PG (Rondo) in the starting lineup. My only issue is with Solo. I respect him, but he has to be the worst starting SF in the league. If we can't replace him, I hope we pair him with a high quality backup. One thing to remember when discussing aquiring a player like Bazemore
(17 mill per) or Crabbe (19 mill per) is: We have over 19 mill going to the combination of Asik, Ajinca, and Pondexter (31.6 mill if you also count Solo's contract).
