Which is preferable to you? I've always thought that I would be a city or right outside the city suburb kind of guy until I retired but I've been thinking more and more about living in the country and just making the commute.

Seems worth it if you have a nice amount of acreage.

Live in the city and have a camp in the sticks if I really have a choice.

I live in suburbans and drive out to the camp to hunt and fish. Makes daily commute to work easier.

Plus, I have enough property to take care of at the camp, I don't want a bunch of land to take care of around where I live too.

Edit to add: This answer may change when/if I retire.

I work in the New Orleans area. I was living in lakeview for a while (rent) but recently bought a house in Mandeville. I know that isn't "out in the country" but it's so much nicer for me than the city. I, personally, don't utilize all that a city offers to pay more to live there

I commute 40 miles into BR daily. I have traffic maybe twice a month.

If I shot a 5lb tannerote target at 2 am, no one would call the cops.

What road to BR only has traffic twice a month?

I live on the water and commute 25 miles to NOLA CBD. I would have preferred some acreage, but that's not affordable (maybe not even available) nearby.

The older I get, the further away from people I want to be.

I live in north east abita springs, so I guess that's considered the sticks. Drive to BR 3 days a week. I wish it wasn't BR, but I've got a great job. I like my setup.

I10 east from 7:30 am to 8:15. I10 west from 6:30 to 7:15 pm.

They grossle exaggerate the traffic issues for those who commute INTO br.

We have two kids still in school in BR, so for now, live in the city and drive to the sticks.

Once those kids are out of school, live in the sticks and drive to the city.

It is to hard to do after school stuff, sleepovers, etc. with the kids going to school in the city and most of their friends living in the city.

You live in West Monroe? I am almost at the point that I could pull the plug from H-town and move home. I would really love to move to somewhere on the river. The good thing about Monroe/West Monroe and generally all of Mecca is that you can be in town in no time.

I currently live about 15-20 minutes south of shreveport, which is about perfect for me. I would go another 10-15 minutes further if land was possible, but im not commuting more than 30 minutes to work each way.

I hate driving way too much.

Just the opposite. The closer I get to retirement, the closer I want to be to grocery store, other stores, food places, etc. Oh and smaller yard with less grass to mow.

Live in the sticks and work in them too. 12 minutes driveway to office, one stop sign to get on the highway and that's it.

But I'm fortunate and work for a small company so most people wouldn't get that chance. Also the land I'm on is my old man's not mine. Really, really lucky......

After living in the city for mostly my entire life, I am ready to move outside the city limits. Not really wanting to move to "the sticks". More like something 10 or 15 minutes out of town. I want a big yard where I can have a shop, and place to park my boat/four wheeler/trailer. I currently have my truck parked in the driveway out in the weather because I have all my other shite in the garage.

Growing up, we always lived in the city, but had a nice sized yard. Now that I'm on my own, I don't currently have those luxuries. From 2005 until 2011 I lived in apartments and townhouses, until buying my first home in 2011 in a new neighborhood where the houses are 15ft apart (at the time I didnt need much space). No room to do shite. An now that I've been able to buy all the shite I've wanted, I need more area to store said shite.

I drive 27 miles into town every day to work. If I could find a place 47 miles away, with a suitable place for my wife and kids to work and go to school I would do that.
