Partly, yes, but I've made conscious choices to live my life this way.

Seeing that this is the outdoor board, I would guess most responses will be in favor of the country. Grew up in the country myself, but living within a 5 minute walk of bars (read: women) restaurants, work and Tiger stadium sure had its perks.

Living close to work holds a lot of value for me.

I like my time. I work and do shite in town 6 days a week. I don't want to lose 6-8 hours of my time driving.

I lived in the sticks for a long time. Never again unless I retire then only if I can afford everything I want in the country. But shite, I like my neighbors and people around me

Whichever allows you the most time in the sticks.

No thank you.

The less unplanned interaction the better.

We live in the country and homeschool, so my wife and kids get peace, quiet and the outdoors every day, and I'm the only one that has to commute. I like that setup, but I'm not saying it's better than living in some nice city. Certainly seems better for us than living in the "cities" around here.

I'll take the country and the commute any day of the week. Been doing it for years. Nice to have some space and room to breathe.
