I wish the lion's cousin would've lept in at that very second and carried that fat bastard away. The pride would've eaten for a month.

wonder what kind of rifle they used?

Being that is was Roosevelt it was undoubtedly a Winchester and was probably 1895 .405. I believe he was given the first three of the production run. The guy had a 30-30 with a silencer on it in the late 1800's.

read his journal entries. Ever since he was a child they are riddled with entries like this. He judged his hunts on one thing quantity of game taken. He seemed to care less about size, trophy, etc. It was all about quantity.

Also the man was the greatest conservationist. Do not judge his methods, it was a completely different time and place and environment back then.

African Game Trails is an awesome and easy read.
IMHO, that no one asked for, it's the best Africa hunting book.
It is about Africa before it was commercialized in the least bit.
That trip was one of the very first hunting expeditions over there.

TR said the most efficient way of hunting lions was to ride them down on horseback with Winchester .405 lever actions. He called the rifle "Good lion medicine".
How much more pimp can you possibly be?

They are neat little animals.
Completely irrelevant to any argument for/against hunting a specific animal

they don't provide much meat compared to the herd of elephant
in that case, we shouldn't shoot doves and ducks, only turkeys

I wonder what kind of sticker ole Rosevelt had on the back of his carriage?

Wonder what that bill would be today?

Shooting some goofy shite while out there for sure. I love hunting and am ok with big game hunting but damn, they were shooting everything.

specifically the Dikdik.

Dikdiks are basically little mini deer.

I'm not sure how anyone could shoot some of those animals in good conscience. Some of them are pretty sedentary and would literally have just laid there while they got shot.

Teddy shot 7 Impalas. Did that Safari take place in New Orleans? I hope no Crown Vics were harmed during their shooting rampage.

and if you believe the title of the list... he did so with a rifle. Good shot if it was a head shot.

There are quite a few animals in those pictures I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting. Seeing a dead hunted lion just kinda bums me out.
