I have a min-pin and it is an awesome dog. The smartest I have ever seen and very athletic. Shouldn't be in the same sentence as a Chihuahua

It’s 99% how you raise the dog most of the time but some breeds are aggravating like chihuahuas. I’m not a fan of pit bulls either. To me you can’t beat a good lab or golden retriever.

Have been around, and had, a lot of dogs and those two you can't go wrong with.

An ex had one. She asked why I don't come over to her house and I was honest... "Your house stinks like your dog.. Your car stinks like your dog".. But I didn't tell I could smell the dog on her clothes.. She is a great person but that is one of the reasons I broke up with her. Oh and the dog had a giant butthole..

Friend of mine had a basset hound. Not the brightest dog on the planet, but affable, funny, sweet-tempered, and lovable. He was pretty stubborn too, when he caught wind of something that interests him.

We had a Australian Shepherd. Very different personality from a basset hound, and you have to spend time with them, but they are great dogs.

Never fact checked it but in Malcolm Gladwell’s book What the a dog saw he makes a claim they Bassett hound is the only breed to never kill a human.
Have had two, still have one, may have another one coming my way in a few months. Great dogs but not “trainable” just let them be.

Is this inherent to the breed or was she just not bathing the dog?

I've thought about a basset hound. Seems like it'd be my speed but never been around one much.

I've had two. One had the classic basset hound "corn chip" smell, the other never smelled at all. I think it's definitely a breed characteristic but not guaranteed.

I love basset hounds more than anything, but I think this is going to be my last one. They're adorable and lovable as hell and are great family pets, but they're just way too much work.

Ours was smelly and stubborn but more personality than any other breed I’ve ever had. She was very adept at playing dumb and much smarter than she looked.

basset hounds are incredibly stubborn.

And like others are said, they are not dumb. They are disinterested.
