People who use crawfish dip bastardize the crawfish boil and should be asked to leave.

I just wanted to drop this debate here. This isn't a fondue party, it's a crawfish boil. You should be able to taste the flavor of the boil in the crawfish- not lather it up in mayo, ketchup and Worcestershire sauce (yes I googled the spelling).

These people should be led to their cars by the ears or sat at the children's table.

No more Louisiana. Just say no.

I know this is some Bunkie/Marksville/Alexandria concoction to rid Louisiana of its culture. I am on the case and we will find the origins.

GTFO.

You come to my house and there will be copious amounts of dip for potatoes, sausage and whatever else you wanna drag through there. If the crawfish tail is one of those things, knock yourself out.

I agree. Nothing like dipping a crawfish tail in a mixture of ketchup and mayo.

If I'm using dip, it's b/c your crawfish are bland.

I don't do it but my friends wife always makes some for the table.

I don't cry inside though. I just go about my business.

Is it ok if I dip boiled shrimp in cocktail sauce?

This whole thread is fricking stupid - taste is subjective if you like something eat it.
It's that simple.
Do we all drink the same beer, drinks or cokes?? No
why do you give 2 shits what another man enjoys

Hell some men like fat women...

I cook all over the state and it's usually about 50/50 on people that use it or don't use it

Martin's Wine Cellar spicy shrimp dip is most excellent. Made with cream cheese.

This.

The only thing worse is people who go to a restaurant to eat crawfish.

Chill out crawfish nazi. I make my crawfish damn good and there is no need for dip as well, but if people want to bring their own / make their own, I don't care. I grew up with lots of people using dip, and that was mainly because the crawfish weren't all that spicy. So I get why people like to use it.

The crawfish SHOULD stand on its own, much like good bbq, but I don't have any issue if people want to dip it in sauce too.

Lived in south Louisiana my entire life, the bulk in Lafayette. I've seen dip at the overwhelming majority of boils I've been to. While I'm not personally a fan of using dip for every tail, I see no issue with using it intermittently as a palate refresh, particularly with crawfish on the spicier side.

Then again, I've always thought people with red eyes and snotty noses pretending to enjoy their crawfish looked like idiots.

I agree with the "live and let live" approach here. My wife dips the tails in a ketchup & mayo mixture, without fail, but I never did so and probably never will.

That being said, she enjoys the sauce, and crawfish boils are about passing a good time. No harm, no foul.

Plus, I have seen enough people use dipping sauce at crawfish boils over the years to know that it's not some sort of egregiously outrageous affront to culinary good taste.

So I say if you likes it, go ahead and eats it.
