This may be true but it's not necessary bad. It's just what you personally value.

I'm gen x, and I'd rather jam knitting needles in my ears than listen to a bunch of schmucks talk about their work. I leave the conversation whenever I'm at a social gathering and the conversation turns to work/jobs/career.

I think it depends on the work. I'm in IT and my brother is a Phys. Assistant, and we both love talking about our jobs. On the flip side, I imagine an Accountant, while having a very lucrative job, might not give two flips about talking about it. I have friends who work in software development who won't talk about it upon pain of torture, but my younger brother is an app developer and he loves going on about it. All Gen Xers.

I'm curious if his aspirations go beyond Senator, or if he is happy representing the people of Nebraska.

This is the funniest thing I'll read all day. He is one of those guys who has lived and is living his whole life to be President. You can't trust people like that.

As someone else said, he is just the next Romney establishment type.

At no point did I say that I hate my job. I actually like my job, but I'm not going to put work above family. I use my vacation days each year to travel or spend time with family. The day I am eligible for retirement is the day I walk out.

Go back and read the post to which I was replying.

Because they choose to not follow the path that make them happy, for a variety of reasons (chasing money, where they live, etc.).

What motivates me in the workplace is the opportunity to use creativity. I thrive off of it. As an engineer I get to use creativity about 30% of the time. It should be more but the world is full of corporate bureaucracy.

It's not that I hate my job. I actually really enjoy it for the most part. I just hate how our work and jobs dominate who we are and how seemingly every social conversation turns to work. I spend enough time at work doing my job. Talking about it at a neighborhood cookout on a Friday is the last thing I want to do. I don't care that you got a promotion. I don't care your company got a nice write up in teh paper. I don't care. Shut up and let's talk about something else.

You didn't say whether he was a repub or dem. This information is what I need to know before deciding whether I like him or not.

I honestly don't know much about Sasse beyond seeing him on this board a few times.
Watched the interview and I came away impressed as well.
However anyone can talk the talk on TV looking at his track record on govtrack his overall work hasn't really culminated into anything. Note he is only a freshman senator. Maybe he can improve on a lot of these stats throughout the next 2.5 years.

govtrack

-Ranked dead last in co sponsored bills among senate freshman.
(3rd fewest out of GOP senators as a whole)
-Ranked dead last in bills introduced among senate freshman.
(2nd fewest out of GOP senators as a whole)
-9th worst leadership score amongst senate GOP
-holds zero leadership positions on any committee.

He is definitely one of the more consistent members of the Senate in message and philosophy.

I do not like all of his policies, but I do have a lot of respect for sasse. He actually believes these things and usually stands up for those beliefs. Something we don't really have much of in washington.

I downloaded his book Friday with the intention of reading it over the weekend but I got too busy.

Going to try to start it tonight. Watching his interviews sold me ... plus Trey Gowdy and he use the same barber, obviously.

Same here. I worked the same type job for 42 years with the same company. I can honestly say that just one of the guys I worked with would be in my top ten best friend list. Basically for 28 years, every other night of my life was spent in a hotel full of guys I worked with. Overkill set in pretty quickly with me when it came to hanging with my cohorts.

And Trump used to be a Democrat.

Really tired of people getting on liberals for not being tolerant of opposing viewpoints but then turn around and immediately pile on anyone on the right who doesn't completely kneel before Trump.

I really don't care what aspirations Sasse has or if he's pushing a book or not. I'll simply settle for more people embracing and echoing the message he delivers.
