I'm amazed at the seeming apathy towards Marshon Lattimore

The consensus top CB in the draft. Spectacular athlete. He was projected to go as high as #2 and really no one saw him drop below 8ish.
Saints fans were barely talking about him, because everyone just assumed he would be gone.
It was a stunning turn of events that he was available at 11, and an absolute no-brainer that you take him. Not even a question.
The reaction was almost caustic and far more controversial than expected. But there now seems to be malaise about him among Saints fans, almost from the moment he was picked. There has not only been malaise, but quite a few people that are downright antagonistic about him.
It is very odd for a guy that could be a potential star and was, without question, one of the stars going into the draft. Anyone notice this?

Two things worry people, one the poor marks Gruden gave him, and two the Saints penchant for screwing up.
But you make excellent points. If NE would have made the same move, it would be a big coup.

Lattimore is a total home run of a pick and close to a best case scenario for the Saints to fall into. We could not have hoped for a better outcome at pick 11. There are only 2 players in the entire draft who might have been a better need/talent combo, Myles Garrett and Solomon Thomas. And they were never going to fall to us.
That people are melting and upset at all about us getting Lattimore is clear and decisive proof that fans will melt over any draft regardless of any possible outcomes.

IMO....most expected to get a pass rusher. I'm not excited about the pick because of his hamstring issues (that doesn't go away) and it's hard to criticize the pick because of his perceived value (athletic ability/potential).
Just kind of meh about him....That being said, I hope he turns out to be as good as advertised. Let's just go with cautiously optimistic.

I was watching nfl network, what did he say?

I can't speak for others, but for me, it has nothing to do with Gruden and everything to do with the injuries. If there's any position that's been snake-bitten for the Saints over the last few years, it's DB. And now we bring in a guy with a fairly significant history of them. But my feeling isn't one of apathy at all. It's excitement mixed with grave concern.

This is completely insane to me. He was easily a top 5 player in the draft, pretty much consensus everywhere.

Everybody wanted a pass rushing get to the quarterback defensive end and Allen from bama was available. I think that's what the negative comments come from

Why would that matter? Allen isn't a defensive end in a 43 and has significant arthritic issues with his shoulders. Doesn't fit us at all.

I'm excited for sure...but is DB a position where a player steps in day 1 and has a big impact as a rookie?
Honestly don't know...so I'm looking at our DB group and am still worried.

It's because so many new additions to the secondary have failed while we haven't bolstered the pass rush. Since we've drafted Cam Jordan just look at all the DBs we've drafted vs. the pass rushers and add in the big free agent whiffs.

I think what happened with pick 32 caused the first round to have less of a bang.

I think there would be a different dynamic to the fan base's reaction to the draft if Reuben Foster had been there at #32 for the Saints. Obviously, from all the info we've received, the Saints were going to take him before the Niners swooped in. If the Saints had gotten him and Lattimore, that would have been two Top 10 defensive talents, it would have been awesome.
Ramczyk is a good pick, but Foster would have helped our defense immediately and for years to come. I do love the Lattimore pick, I'm hoping he can upgrade our defense and be the shutdown corner we need. Only time will tell...

If allens health concerns are true, we did well. He was the only person I considered over lattimore. The fact that him, lattimore, and Barnett were all there blew my mind. The draft went almost perfect before number 11 with all the offense picked. Lattimore should be a huge impact to this team.

People are apathetic about the pick bc he has a serious injury history and played one full season of college football. If he has no hamstring issues his rookie season, I will be ecstatic as he has the potential to be the best corner in the league.

I agree with everything Gruden said. The big worries for me is he's a Redshirt Soph who also missed a ton of games due to injury which equates to lack of experience. He doesn't use his hands in press man because most of the time he could get away with it due to his athleticism. He doesn't get off of blocks well and get blocked out of plays to easily. Looks terrible at nickel.

People fail to realize that an improved secondary will create additional opportunities for our pass rushers. If the secondary can't even give the d line 3-5 seconds to get to the quarterback, it doesn't matter who you have rushing the passer.

Alright but I'm just wondering why this wasn't the conventional wisdom from the beginning. Pretty much everybody wanted a pass rusher early until we didn't get a pass rusher early.
ETA: I definitely wanted a corner in the first 2 rounds by the way because most of our corners suck IMO.
