1) Lattimore is not even close to Patrick Peterson
2) Pass rush improves your secondary....secondary doesn't improve your pass rush
3) there is a long history of CB failures
4)we have not addressed the pass rusher opposite of Cam Jordan since Cam Jordan has been here
5) I'm pretty sure it is now a consensus that the two most important positions on the football field today is:
QB
Pass Rusher
Hence...the #1 overall pick in the draft
Hopefully Latimore will be the superstar he is projected to be.
I do understand that he is a player you couldn't pass up on....
It will be interesting to see who has a better career....latttimore or Barnett?

Nvm. Saw the link.

I don't necessarily disagree so much with what he said, but I do disagree he has a long way to go.

And while yes we will have to monitor his hammies, the issue did go away last year.

Also just like espn to show mostly bad film on the kid. He gave up 1 td and 7 catches all year and they pretty much showed all of those. They maybe showed 1 int.

It absolutely can. Ever heard of a coverage sack? Jordan could have had several more sacks last year if the secondary was worth a damn. We already have 3 first rounders on our dline. We needed to improve the secondary.

This. They go hand in hand. You cant have one without the other and have a good defense. In todays game, if you dont have a good secondary, you dont have shite.

Do you have a link for this or was it during the draft or something? Can't find where he ever said anything about him.

It was during the draft. One of the sites that graded the Saints even mentioned it. I never found the exact quotes though.

Not really....
We have three outstanding defensive lineman....
We are missing the edge rusher opposite Cam Jordan....
Yes, coverage sacks do happen....
But you can have 4 Deon Sanders in your secondary, and with no pass rush, the top 15 QB's will light you up

Pretty much everybody wanted a pass rusher early until we didn't get a pass rusher early.

I may have been one of the few people who did NOT think rush end was the top need. Imo, and why I was one of the biggest proponents of getting Butler, is because we literally have one guy who could be a #1 CB and he has been dinged up.

We need that surefire #1 or it won't matter who is rushing the passer. If you have two weaker corners, as we did in 2014 and last year, they get picked apart by quick passes all game and the pass rush has no time to get home. In 2014 we gave up by far the most yards to backs also, and I believe we were at or near the top again last year.

Yes the quick passes to backs are more of a LB/scheme issue, but the main point is that our Dline consistently had no time to get home.

Hell I probably had cover LB as close to the same level of need as rush end, despite who we added in FA.

But I also realized we had Kikaha coming back and Oakafor can make some plays too.

We'll have to wait to see how this year plays out, but I believe rush end and cover LB will be our biggest defensive needs again, but not because we lack good players there. It's because we lack top end players there. Having one real impact player at each position (CB, S, LB, DE) will have a huge ripple effect.

How many teams have 4 outstanding defensive lineman? I don't think many.

Yes....we now have several guys to plug in and rotate...
I'm hearing good things about Hendrickson
We know what Okafor can do
And hopefully Kikaha will be healthy
Don't misunderstand....I love our draft!

The only question mark for me was taking Anzalone over Derek Rivers

even if it was Myles Garrett

I'm a very optimistic person, bit honestly I have poked holes in Garrett, raking up over half his sacks against players that aren't nfl bound.

That said I still think he's talented and he'll do well. I just question if in the end he'll wind up the best DE in this draft.

pick because of his hamstring issues (that doesn't go away)

OK. Your on the stage. Site us a stud first round pick that never got past his "hammy" issues.

I'm sure by your post that there must be many so pick one or two.

Go!

Im not. We were 4th overall in QB hits last year with 106. We were 27th in sacks with 30. That tells me the split seconds we weren't able to sack QBs was due to the coverage.

A fricking men.

As long as we can cover up the backs better and our additions prove legit it should give us that half a second we've been missing to get home.

Well you guys continue to believe that....
Football 101 has never changed...
It begins with the OL and DL....
Apparently y'all think coverage is more important than pass rush! OK

Absolute fricking bullshite. As another poster and I pointed out, half a second better coverage turns hits into sacks. We were 4th in hits.

I said this in 2014 and again last year, if you give the rush under 3 seconds to get home almost every play then you aren't going to get many sacks no matter who you have.

Coverage absofrickinglutely affects pass rush. They work hand in hand.
