I did basic and AIT there in 1990. We graduated on January 17th of '91, the day the Gulf War started. We all thought we were not going home but would be shipped straight to Kuwait.

No. Did basic at Ft.Jackson.

No big hills, but a lot of damn sand.

I went to Ft Knox last year for ALC and I was going to drive out to these three but didn’t have a chance. It was my first time going to Knox and the base is dead compared to the days when BCT and AIT was there. I think the JROTC command pretty much runs the base now.

Weird to see Commander Data in this thread. I wonder what happened to him.

Yeah, no really big hills but some areas are pretty hilly. Sandy for sure. I go to Jackson and McCrady a few times a year for training

Camp Casey has the Stairway to Heaven which is just stairs going up the side of a mountain. It's a bitch.

Probably not what you are referring to, but there was a ton of stairs going up behind the TMC to the Officer's Quarters. I do remember what they called Cardiac Hill at Casey. This was 88/89.

Sand Hill is the name of the training area but I don't recall ever running a "Sand Hill". It's been over 20 years now, though.

Casey also has "Dragon Valley". A lot of shitty runs packed into that area.

Ft. Knox, 19D Cav, alum here. They absolutely earned their name too. Especially during the winter cycle when I was there.

I did, I totally remember that effing hill! I graduated in 87 as well! I can't recall the names of the courses we did? Do you remember any of them? Did we do a version of SERE? I think we did.

At Knox we had three.
The old man was in the Army Reserves in the early 50s while he was attending UK. He was Airborne and got extra money as “jump pay”.

He had two kids by ‘52 and was hanging out of a C-47 door over Knox when it hit him that he was an idiot for still jumping.

That was his last jump.
