He will have every high school coach & player eating out of the palm of his hand during recruiting.

But that's not what you said. You said Strong>O. As in Strong is better than O. Which is not factual. It's opinion. You learned it in 3rd grade. Be more specific next time, hoss.

I mean, Strong is objectively better than Orgeron on paper.

That is not a debate.

I do apologize for the name calling, I was having a bad morning and I just kinda piled on with the other guy, I don't usually do that very much

quote:

He inherited a team loaded with Petrino's recruits and was successful with them once they were upperclassmen.

No he didn't, he took over after Kragthorpe cratered the program following Petrino leaving. Strong built it back up. All that being said I don't want Strong either, I'm not even sure why I am arguing this other than I really don't want O as the head coach

People need to chill and wait and see what O can do the rest of season. People learn from experience. He may be better than most think. Cant judge someone from their past, present is what matters. He said that when Les was let go . Its a new season! All I'm saying is let the man do his job. Grade him when the season is over. People asking him to come out and beat the #1 team in the country is ridiculous, but I do think he at least needs to be competitive in that game.

It isn't

But if he also wins then it's a great scenario to be in. Having a hometown guy and all. But obviously he needs to produce.

Recruits can relate to him better, but they will still want to go where they can win. So, winning and one of us is a plus, but being one of "us" counts for nothing if you can't win.

We've had the state on lockdown for a while now, apparently just that doesn't get us over the hump.

Seems like it would be a major factor in recruiting but Les was a great recruiter and he was a Michigan Man. But having a coach who is from LA and knows the state, knows the people, knows the tradition, seems like that could only help.

All that matters though is wins and losses. Coach O has shown that he can motivate football players. That might be the biggest factor in college football. Get talent, develop talent, and keep the talent motivated. If he gets the job and they bring in a top OC I think he could get the job done.

Not really. Maybe on 75% lockdown but Cam Rob, Landon Collins, Greg Robinson, Tim Williams, etc maybe would've helped us win some more games

Miles liked to recruit a bunch of kickers, te, and skill people. O likes to recruit more OL, DL, and QBs

I like O because he is making it fun, fun to watch the sidelines, fun and open to get reports on practices and injuries, and fun to see players hit the field, last week we saw Dillon on the field and not so much Ferguson. So we are either playing kids that worked in practice or playing kids we decide give us an advantage against an individual opponent. I am fine with competing for an SEC championship and having fun with a coach that is never leaving and can recruit his arse off. Recruiting is so under appreciated. Look at Miles, by most accounts now he was a football moron, and he won a crap ton. Saban is master no doubt, but give him Syracuses lineup and see what he does in the West, or States.

How is "being one of us" necessarily relevant to recruiting.

Strong is Texas' mess. No way LSU cleans that up for them. Texas would love it if LSU came in, "stole" Strong from them sort of like TCU stole Trent Johnson from LSU basketball. It would open the door for Texas to hire Tom Herman without the backlash of firing Strong.

Have you looked at Louisville's schedule during the 11-2 and 12-1 years? Hint, they weren't in the ACC at that point so that is not necessarily defining on either side.

What is defining is what you do with what you have now. UT is .500 under Strong. We'll have to see with O but he did go 6-2 with his last P5 program and he is currently 2-0. Strong is still looking for his first winning season in year 3 at a P5 school.

Recruiting is a significant part of the job, but effectively pointing a team in the right direction is the other part of the job.

I've always considered the line "that he is one of us" as his familiarity with the recruiting of players in the area (south) and being able to have a better dialog with them. This should only be used in consideration for determining our next coach if all other things are equal. Fortunately, with the games coming up, you will get a good reading of what CEO can do and determine if he is worth giving the job to full time.

I dunno, but we're 2-0 under him with offensive records set in both games.

It seems I read that quote daily on here. I'm all for coach O getting a chance if he wins out but him being from south Louisiana should have nothing to do with that decision. I would much rather a proven hire but if he wins out he deserves a shot.

Ok...I'll dig further. If you want to put up a fence around LA, recruiting-wise, you hire a good recruiter FROM THAT STATE with strong relationships with HS head coaches in that state. Coach O has been a MAJOR factor in recruiting at LSU over the past couple years. That fact, plus winning games will be big factor in whether he gets the job or not. It won't be solely on him being from LA. But it will help, IF he can keep winning.
