Not surprising. If you go shopping for a car, manual transmissions are hard to find.

Even a popular model like the Accord Sport, the manual only comes in 2 colors.

The best selling vehicle in the country, the Ford F150 doesn't even have a manual as an option.

You see lot of sports cars going away from it too.

sitting in Baton Rouge traffic every day gettig on to the bridge, I'm glad I don't have a manual trans! They are becoming obsolete now with new advances in automatic trans.

Sports cars are getting away from it because autos are faster. They're directly coupled now and don't waste power like torque converter autos.

My truck has an automatic and I hate it.

I did not have my first automatic transmission until I was 22 years old count my in the 18%. My father taught us to drive a manual before we ever touched an automatic. His rationale was if you can drive a manual then you can drive anything.

Paddle shifters are ridiculously fast now, but they still annoy me. Another reason for the change is that you have to get a bench seat in a truck to get a stick

Things change over time. I'm 38 and my oldest is 18, we don't own a vehicle with a manual transmission so she will probably never learn to use one. My two little ones are 6 & 3 and probably won't ever need to know how to use one either. They will also never need a home phone things change.

Ok? It isn't really a necessary skill in the US anymore.

However, if you ever intend to live abroad...you may want to learn how to drive a stick.

And the part about fuel economy is also false. Manual>Auto

This hasn't been true for a long time. Automatic transmissions are more efficient than manual transmissions for the vast majority of drivers.

That being said, manual transmissions are awesome.

This is why Europe is laughing at us.

Europeans drive manuals because they are cheaper; they buy cheaper cars because they pay more in taxes and can't afford the cars and homes of the average American. Yay socialism; Hillary will bring us ever closer.

My car is a manual. I really wanted it but remember 10 years ago being stressed about having a stick before I got it. I guess I was nervous about stalling out or having trouble getting off the line in a hurry when pulling out in traffic.

Now the only problem I've ever had is not being able to get my wife to want to learn on it.

You are unlikely to be car jacked in a manual.

Surprised it's that high.

Don't think it's necessary or anything as it's almost hard to get a vehicle in standard now, but it sure as shite is way more fun and for anyone that knows how it gives you so much more of a feeling that you're actually DRIVING instead of sitting on your couch as the vehicle drives you.

Both mine and my wife's vehicles are standard and our 14 year old is gonna learn how to drive them because that's what we have.
