Ever seen a successful divorce?

I haven't...
My brother is in the middle of one right now and things are going oddly smooth. At some point, its got to fall apart and blow up, right? Any chance his kids are actually better off not having to watch 2 people that really don't like each other be unhappy, or is that just a myth?

Is the couple no longer married?
If so, I'd call that a success.

yes they are called no contest divorces. Usually no lawyers are involved and it costs like $350 to get done.

From a kids persoective, I'm 31 and my parents got divorced 2-3 years ago. It has been incredible amicable. They are still friends and still involve themselves in their and our lives, together. But just couldn't be together for a number of reasons.
I know it was 100% the right thing for them to do but I can't say it doesn't hurt, even as a 31 year old. Just sucks on a lot of different levels (from their child's persoective).

A guy I work with went through one. They work together still raising their two kids and still do a lot of events together. I also think they managed to figure out financial arrangements amicably without the lawyers skimming too much.

I've seen a bunch. You can actually get really cheap divorces if you don't have kids. Kids complicate things.

Actually yes, and there was even a 5 year old kid involved.
They are still good friends, though.

First hand...
Divorce in TN is easy if there are no children. Four year of marriage and no children, means we split post marriage property up 50/50. signed some papers, a judge reviewed them to ensure that it was a fair division and it was final within two months.
I don't talk to her and she doesn't talk to me, and that is ok. We don't hate each other, we were just miserable together, so we called it quits.

Yes my Aunt and Uncle got a divorce and are still close. So close in fact, that my aunt and her new husband, and my uncle and his new wife do things together. They got married by pressure, not by love. They never fought/fight and have two kids together.
It sounds weird as can be on paper, but they had a completely peaceful divorce.

interestingly (to me at least) i've noticed the the most amicable divorces have been when one party decides to bat for the other team. even with kids involved, they seem to handle that pretty well usually.

With kids? No.
I grew up around a lot of divorced kids, and I've never seen a divorce that didn't wreck the kid for atleast a year. Usually it had long-term impact.

Divorce is pure selfishness by at least one of the parties. Often both. It's the blight on our society and the root of many of our larger problems.

Not really, but I can't say I've ever seen a successful marriage either. Misery is the natural order of things.

When I got divorced we were fairly young so didn't have much including no kids. Neither got a lawyer and we just walked our separate ways agreeing on who'd get what. Emotional healing took time but that's about as successful as one could be I guess.

Ex and I did this, and it made things a lot easier during the process. I'll talk to friends/family who went through awful divorces and they can't believe how lucky I was to be spared of that.
I tell everyone she made an awful wife, but was one excellent ex-wife.

Sounds like you both were mature enough to figure this out and end it amicably. Kudos to you.
