Never heard of a reception the next day? Friday wedding sounds trashy anyway. You are in the right OP

She is in the wedding. That means she is banging someone that night while her hormones are all fired up. If you want it to be you, I highly suggest you get your arse to the wedding. Besides, how are you going to be in top form for the reception after driving all day? I would go with her on Wed and play golf locally/ hang around town for a couple of days. You will shine as the good boyfriend and gets lots of gratuitous booty.

OT'ers in their moms basement will decry this plan as Beta but you can laugh as you are knocking the bottom out of your woman.

She thinks I should be there for the wedding. I think, don't schedule a Friday wedding and expect for out of town acquaintances to be there.
is she really pressing you on this or upset? Long term girlfriend?

If she has a big issue with this, i think that throws up some red flags. I don't get the need for a boyfriend or husband to "be there for his girl" at someone else's wedding...it's not a funeral, what exactly do you need to be there for?

Gotta put your foot down on this one, see how she reacts. It'll be a sign of things to come, I'm sure of it.

Also, some of you in this thread must have awful boring friends. Most weddings I go to are an absolute blast. I love weddings.

No, I don't think you are. And I'd guess the bride and groom aren't expecting a ton of people at the actual wedding or the reception would be right after.

Not exactly sure where you guys are in your relationship, but it looks to me like you are overlooking a point of negotiation. Could negotiate an opportunity for something "unusual".

Otherwise, reasonable response.

I don't think you're an a-hole for this. Actually, if you couldn't be there for the wedding, I'd probably tell you not to come at all. I'd just spend the weekend with my friends. Or at least getting a good night's sleep in a nice hotel bed.

Tell her you are not taking a vacation day. What does she suggest you do since you will be working that Friday.

Man,

Your girlfriend is going to be all dolled up, pissed at you, and drunk.

Some other dude is going to rail her for sure.

You better go.

She wants you there for the wedding so she can show you off, period. She also wants you there to show that you are a good guy. You not showing up for the wedding doesn't let her show you off and furthermore shows her and her friends that you DGAF about what she wants.

So if the poon is great and you like the girl I'd go. If not, it's your choice. There's no win win here unless you PIIHB for showing up.

This is the correct take. Showing up her friends is as important to a woman as sandwiches are to you and I.

Let me guess. Friday was the day the location was available.
all the sane people who can plan had already scheduled the venue for weekend days.

I've never heard of having the reception the day after the wedding. I don't think you're an a hole at all for this. Terrible wedding planning on their part.

You're basically taking the vacation day to be with your girlfriend, not just to attend the wedding. And that's probably how she sees it.

Is your girlfriend someone you can see yourself marrying or she is the girl you want to marry?

If the answer is yes you need to go.

I've never been to a wedding that was so much fun that it would have been worth 14 hours of driving.
