Embarrassing. New Dean of the School of Music is butthurt that Tiger Band gets all the attention and lots of funding from the athletic department and wants some of that sweet sweet athletics money for the rest of the SoM. Pathetic that it's come to this petty bullshite. I don't necessarily care for the way Roy runs the band sometimes but this is a total injustice.

As a TB alum from the 80's, this is disgusting to see. The School of Music has always had an inferiority complex to THGBTL largely because of the financial differences. The Professors in the School of Music looked down upon TB for the most part. They will destroy Tiger Band unless the administration steps in and stops this.
Going back a few years ago, The School of Music screwed Linda Moorehouse out of the TB Director job. She ended up leaving and now does the same job at the University of Illinois.
I guess Roy King is going to be the next victim.
The current state of affairs at LSU really disgust me.

Most of Tiger Band's funding comes from the football athletic budget - the balance is through fundraising by TGLFTB supporters.
The School of Music is pissed because the Golden Girls get some of this money (as well as the color guard and band members) and the SoM wants more money for musicians who aren't in TGBFTL. This is of course stupid because it's not like the TAF or anybody else is supporting TGBFTL (and the color guard and the Golden Girls) because of any relationship to the LSU School of Music.
So, if you don't want Golden Girls or the Band and color guard, I guess you'd be on board with the weasels at the SoM and the LSU admins supporting them.
Disclaimer: my son is in TGLFTB. If this is the kind of puny shite that LSU is going to chase after, then my guess is that he might just forgo Tiger Band in the near future.

This is probably completely justified. He's one of the least qualified band directors in the SEC. Why would this be a witch hunt over money if they'd have to hire a MORE expensive director?
