Another one is yogurt. I remember seeing a news story about Russians that ate it and it didn't sound good to me at all. I eat it now several times a week.

Apparently that "news story I saw was actually an advertisement from when Dannon Yogurt first started advertising their product in 1973.

Conch - like the chicken liver of the sea.

Tongue - it's now my favorite taco.

Turkey Necks - not really "Exotic," but wasn't a cut of meat that my parents or anyone in my family ever used. First had one when I started working at Castnet and was like wow. Then I met my future Wife in 2003, and her family smothers them in gravy ... blew my mind.

Avocado - not really exotic, but I couldn't stand them when I was young. Now I can't eat Mexican food without them.

Tongue was a big revelation. Actually worked in a Jewish deli for a spell in my teens - hated slicing the stuff and having to peel back the membrane. Learned to loved it - and it does make a seriously good taco.

I'll put pickled herring on the list while we are on the Jewish appetizing side.

Sushi - which I'll thank a good friend who pointed out that my orders of rare tuna steaks already put me in the same the arena for forcing me to try.

Liver in various incarnations - wurst, pate from chicken, venison, monkfish etc - it's all good.

Hogshead cheese - had a solid version from Toup's lately - seriously good.

Pickled jellyfish - crunchy goodness.

Since I grew up in NO, sushi just didn't seem exotic compared to raw oysters. I'm not quite Andrew Zimmer, but I will eat almost anything.

Looked like worms on a plate when I first saw it. Since reluctantly trying it 20 years ago I am forever addicted.

Nutria
I heard Rummel high school is having a "Beast Feast" tonight and one of the things they're offering is nutria tacos.

I had family in the North who on holidays would serve "cannibal sandwiches". It's raw ground beef served open face on a small piece of rye cocktail bread which has a nice salty crust. Cracked pepper went atop the beef, then topped with slivered raw onions.

They were so wrong, but oh so good. Apparently there have been a few outbreaks eating this stuff so I wouldn't advise it. So good though...

Fondue pots were popular back in the 70's. I'm not talking about cheese fondue, but fondue pots where you stabbed a piece of meat or vegetable with a color coded long fork and cooked each bite during the meal. I always looked forward to that when I was a kid.

I'm so old I can remember when Camellia Grill still had the Cannibal special on the menu.

What's the "burger" that is raw ground beef with a hole carved in the middle and filled with a raw egg? My dad used to talk about how much he loved this as a kid. I may have the details wrong, so correct me if so.

Love Sushi albeit not my "favorite."

To quote Terry Bradshaw, it was better known as bait growing up in Shreveport.

Anchovies..love em now. Especially at a tapas place drizzled in a little olive oil

Bone marrow. Yum. People who say they wouldn't touch it don't know what they are missing.

Chicken hearts..you see packs of them in the Asian food markets..I just skewer the one that comes with a whole chicken and grill it (after a soy/garlic soak) as an appetizer. I sure don't have to fight anyone for it.

Sushi: I can remember kids on the playground talking about how Japanese ate raw fish. We thought it was insane. I eat it all the time now, but I bet my parents would not touch it.

Yogurt: In a college speech class, a middle eastern student gave a speech about how his family made yogurt. (We were only familiar with the fruity shite at the store.) His recipe involved taking milk in a jar, wrapping in a towel, and leaving it outside.

He was so proud to tell the family story, but the whole class was going "Ewwwwww!"

I can still remember him saying, "You take the meeelk, and you poot eet een the jar ..."

Now I make it myself.
