Probably hated Johnathan Sullivan the most especially considering the players we could have had. When you are so lazy that Bill Belichick can't get anything out of you then you are without a doubt a sack of shite.

The thinking was that Erxleben would be another Ray Guy punting the ball, plus be a good FG kicker. Rosters were smaller back then and having one guy fill two roster spots appealed to the front office. They didn't do their due diligence, however. Turns out Erxleben had a drinking problem, and didn't perform well under pressure.
Even for the time it was not common, hell it's only happened 4 times that I know of. I think the oddity of the pick started expectations a bit higher, kind of like "damn, a kicker in the 1st, he must have one hell of a leg" sort of mentality. Then he just came out and sucked so they moved him to just punter, pretty much rubbed salt in a festering wound.
I think Steve Little was another one taken around the same time as Erxleben for the same dual skill set. Also didn't work out well for either prodigy.

People forget how bad Tebucky Jones was
Posted on 9/29/15 at 12:41 pm to Byron Bojangles III
considering Tebucky Jones basically replaced Sammy Knight I don't think that was the case.
Bellamy moved over to SS and Tebucky took over FS. The change in personnel was quite obvious.

Players I loathe Jonathan Sullivan, Norman Hand, Grady Jackson, Dale Carter.
Why do you hate the big wiggle? He ate up blocks so LaRoi Glover could get pressure. Damn we could use a good DT on this team now!

We have a terrible history of investing in DL while getting no production.

quote:What was unique at the time about Erxleben is that he was the first Saints player that Saints fans really seemed to hate. There were other horrible first round draft picks before Erxleben. Les Kelly, Kevin Hardy, John Shinners, Kurt Schumacher, Larry Burton, Royce Smith, Rick Middleton (over teammate Randy Gradishar), Joe Campbell all sucked. But the team was still relatively new in New Orleans and Saints fans forgave a lot, including trading the #1 overall pick for Gary Quozzo, and trading away the opportunity to draft Bert Jones for DE Billy Newsome.

But something about Erxleben just got under our skins. I don't know if he's the most hated player in Saints history or not, but he's definitely the first Saints player I remember Saints fans hating.

most here would give their left nut for that front 4 back in 2000 with howard, hand, glover and johnson compared to what we have now. sack city with those pass rushers.

No one said anything about that beast line. We mentioned that Hand after that season never seemingly came close to replicating that years success. Instead he put on pounds and lost whatever fire he possessed.

JASON DAVID
I remember that guy because his first play as a Saint was a pick six after that everyone cursed him every game he played. He was the worst corner I have ever seen play.

Wade Wilson might do it... never seen the crowd cheer an injury to the QB before.

This was very embarrassing, and it was on Monday Night football

My most hated are Fred Thomas and Jason David

Jarrius Byrd. Barely played, did nothing and has been absent for a huge period of time for mysterious reasons while our corners and safeties lose games. He's cashing big money paychecks while our beloved team flounders in mediocrity!

Carl Smith was O coordinator but probably despised/hated as much as any player in franchise history. Player would have to be Jason David, just pitiful. Loomis is starting to work on my nerves with these terrible drafts lately too.

Brooks received a lot of hate. He deserved some of it, especially the backwards passing.

Most hated probably Gallette. Thug POS the Saints groomed and invested time &money into, bashed former vets who actually won a Super Bowl, consistently made bad decisions that led to his release and us owing him a nice little sum.
Great talent, shite for brains. This dude robbed us.

Question is really hard to define. People saying Aaron Brooks forget how much we loved him at first, especially after leading the Saints to their first playoff win in history.
Charles Grant and Sedrick Ellis were good players for parts of their careers, they just didn't maintain.
Erxleben? I think it was just more of a comical sense of pathetic management, like Ingram x 100. You were like "dear god, WHY???"
Most of the defensive backs listed were career Saints, and not particularly hated as much as you wished they were better.
Jason David, on the other hand, was a disaster from the get-go, and he really got some hate.
Ricky Williams and Reggie Bush got some nastiness, too. Ricky had tons of shoestring tackles for losses after we gave up an entire draft to get him, and Reggie had a shite-ton of embarrassing stat lines for all his hype (I remember The Sporting News dedicating a 2 page spread to Reggie every game one year, and it would read something like 5 rushes for 11 yds, 2 catches for 7 yds, 0 tds. After a couple of those issues, I wanted them to just stop covering the guy, as he clearly wasn't the superstar we expected him to be).
