How often do you go a day without spending any money?

This is mostly a question for the married people or people with families, as I'm sure its easy for single people. I know I could go a full week without spending any money while single.
But for posters with a wife or a family, how often does your entire family go without spending any money within a day? We charge everything, so I'm able to track this type of stuff, and I just had to go back almost 3 months before I found a day where we didn't spend any money. This kind of horrifies me.
Just seems like either me or my wife will go out for lunch or pick up coffee on the way to work or we will need to make a run to the store for some ketchup or something, which isn't a big deal, just kind of horrifying how often we go without being a consumer for a day.

I don't think my wife nor I go a day without spending any money, one of us will purchase something. Now, I think I could go quite a few days without buying something but the wife, not a chance, as she is always saving me money on the items she purchases...:-)...they are called Grandchildren...and that is real fine by me

Step 1) wake up
Step 2) eat xanax

We try to do it for a week at a time every now and then.
We try to cook all of our meals but we always seem to be out of at least one key ingredient. I find it fun to improvise in situations like that but the wife doesn't always want to.
It's a fun way to clean out the freezer, pantry, and fridge.

It can be done but in reality you're just spending more the day / week before to cover the next day / week

Easy for us. Pack a lunch for work that consists of the previous night's leftovers. Add granola and yogurt for breakfast, along with a few other snacks from home to get me thru the day.
Rinse and repeat the next day.

Yeah, I'd say we are able to do it once or twice a week. We try to go to the grocery every Sunday to buy what we need for the week, so unless I need to stop and get gas on the way to work, we shouldnt have too many daily expenses. Wife stays at home with 2 kids.

right
it sounds easy enough...just doesn't seem to happen very often for my family
before I looked, I figured we did it at least once a week, but nope

the wife and I do this probably every week. The wife hardly buys anything (thanks! hon), and mondays aren't a day we grocery shop or do anything that would be spending money.

We will do it sometimes on a lazy Sunday during football season. This has never really been a goal of mine though. I think the best way to look at it is over a month how much you spend and how it compares to your income. If you are making good money, you should reward yourself with a good cup of coffee sometimes.

Physically not spending a dime during a day isn't too tough, but it is near impossible to live a day without any expenditures at all.
Water, HVAC, sewage, gas, cable, internet, trash, rent, etc. are sunk costs no matter your behavior.

Easy for me, too. Packed lunch most days, make an iced coffee at home for the drive to work. Free coffee at work. We generally shop in bulk once a month or so, with a produce or farmer's market run once a week. Easy for me to go a week without spending...my most frequent purchase is probably fuel.

We spent nothing on Monday or Tuesday. We spent on some Chik-Fil-A and some gas on Wednesday, and then I blew $24 on a case/Bluetooth keyboard for my iPad Mini late yesterday.
Otherwise we probably won't spend anything until we go out to eat with my family tomorrow night. It's not hard at all.

It is impossible to not spend any money, whether you actively make a purchase or not. Unless you deactivate your power/cable/cell phone/ect. We're consumers... and I kinda hate it sometime.

We're actually pretty good at this.
We both brown bag it for lunch and make big meals on Sunday to eat for dinner throughout the week.
Typically stop to grab some beer one day a week and break the streak.

Just checked and the last time we did this was July 19th, the in-laws were and town and picked up the tab that day
That was the only day in the month of July that we didn't spend money.

I can do it easily its just getting the wife (who works on the road) to not spend money for lunch. It's the weekend that kills me. No kids by the way.

I'm a coffee drinker myself, but it's easy enough to get a Nespresso (if she's drinking espresso), or some cold-brewed coffee concentrate to keep in the office fridge. Way way way cheaper than the Starbucks habit. $4 x 3 days a week = $12....x 45 weeks = $540/year. Nespresso machine is $99, pods are about $.75/each. A bottle of Cool Brew is $6-8, makes about 16 iced coffees.
Or if you really want to be thrifty, make your own cold-extracted coffee from your favorite grounds.
An inexpensive mini fridge at the office is great for your lunch budget.
