I do this...the wife, however, just likes Starbucks. I've tried to convert her, but she has drank it for so long now that she is just used to that flavor and kinda prefers it.

as for lunch, its me that has the bad habit of eating out for lunch

I can go an entire week without spending on anything outside of fuel. My wife can't go a day without stopping a store and buying something.

Why would this be horrifying? I pay the electric bill once a month but I use electricity every day, for example.

If you make more money than you spend on a daily basis, why do you stress out? It seems like money is on your mind a lot and is dictating your emotion/behavior.

It's easy for me.

Seems to be hard for my wife.

Oh man back in the day, the wife was still in school. I was living by myself.

I could go nearly 2-3 weeks without spending money. I'd go stock up on food and beer for the month and I worked 7 miles from home.

I used to eat an entire month on $40-$60. Grilled chicken and veggies for nearly every meal

If you make your own coffee and bring your own lunch it's not hard. What else is there to spend money on every day?

Of course I'm single though.

Easy for me and i do it for days at a time. I work and live on a military base. Make my coffee in morning and go home for lunch. Dont spend a penny.

Can't say the same for the wife though.

My daily lunch addiction keeps me sane. It's either pay now, or pay the therapist later

That's kind of a fun things to do, I guess. But I've never looked at it like that before. When I've done budgets, I've always looked at how much has been spent in various categories over a month or a quarter and then made adjustments to my spending, if I felt it necessary. Given my wicked past, a month living like a monk could easily have been cancelled out by one weekend living like Caligula.

Nope. I spent $2,100 on a watch one time using this method of lifestyle, I thought I'd dreamed it till the postal service showed up saying I had to sign for my package.

Not spending money for a day is really easy, unless you factor in that you have just pre-spent the money at some other time. It's hard to get around using gas or food for a day.

I did this yesterday, didn't spend a dime. It was freakishly hard to do on a Saturday.

I'm genuinely curious about this one: several posters have commented that they don't make daily purchases, but their spouses do. Is this b/c she's purchasing most of the items for household upkeep (food, toiletries, paper goods, other consumables) and for family clothing/entertainment? IOW, how much of this is "fun" spending (ie, lunches out, Starbucks) and how much is relatively necessary household spending, simply spread out over time rather than purchased in mass quantities once or twice a month?
